Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Dakota Fanning Star in Anti-Cancer PSA [Video]

There has been such a recent rash of celebrity-endorsed Public Service Announcements that I am starting to think such involvement is now a new requirement in the Celebrity for Dummies guidebook.

The latest group to star in a PSA include some heavy-weight young Hollywood celebs: Zac Efron, Dakota Fanning, Kristen Bell, Vanessa Hudgens, Andrew Garfield, Zachary Levi, Donald Faison, Jon Heder, Logan Lerman, Naya Rivera, Olivia Munn, Sofia Vassilieva, Clark Duke, William Moseley, Aubrey Plaza and Aaron Yoo.  All of these celebs Stand Up To Cancer with the message: “It’s Up2 all of us to change the odds of getting cancer in our lifetimes.”

This video is pretty captivating with its cool statistics about the odds of various unlikelihoods such as being stuck in an elevator, bowling the perfect game, or becoming an astronaut, and so on. Until the video punches the viewer in the gut with the very last statistic: The odds of developing cancer. The odds stated in the video seem so depressingly high–high enough to ensure that we all reach into our pockets and make a donation.

I don’t know anything about the organization behind this PSA but I hope these celebs are doing their homework before lending their names to any campaign – lest they get hit with the same issues facing Sandra Bullock and her endorsement of the Women of the Storm PSA.

Nigel Lythgoe Joins American Idol Again

“Looks like Nigel Lythgoe is coming back to American Idol. Hit u with the latest tomorrow early…gnite”


Reps from Idol confirmed to USA Today that Lythgoe, who left Idol in 2008 to focus on So You Think You Can Dance as an executive producer and judge, will be back on Idol for the upcoming season. Lythgoe has reportedly signed a two-year contract to revitalize the show alongside creator Simon Fuller and executive producers Cecile Frot-Coutaz and Ken Warwick.

Wyclef Jean Announced His Bid For Haitian Presidential Race

   Haiti will undergo a presidential election come November 28 and today, Haitian-born Wyclef Jean, the Grammy-winning hip-hop star of The Fugees, announced his intention of running for the presidency.

Wyclef told The Wall Street Journal: “My whole country, my whole life since I was a kid, the country has had political turmoil…And after the January 12th [Haitian earthquake], I felt there would be a new beginning and the international world would be more involved, America would be more involved, and I call myself more connected…I think the reality of it, to rebuild Haiti is going to take 25-30 years. But I think there are issues we can start tackling—the education, the literacy problem, the job creation problem, the agricultural component.”

Wyclef had told Time: “If not for the earthquake, I probably would have waited another 10 years before doing this. The quake drove home to me that Haiti can’t wait another 10 years for us to bring it into the 21st century.”

Wyclef took a prominent role in raising relief money after the earthquake. His charity, the Yéle Haiti Foundation (est. 2005), came under widespread attack when critics accused him of misusing funds from the organization for personal use. Wyclef vehemently denied the charges and pledged to be more vigilant with the charity.

According to his brother and spokesman, Sam Jean, Wyclef was deeply affected by the earthquake, especially when he returned to his homeland to help with relief efforts. Sam Jean says: “He saw they need much more help than he could provide himself. If he got involved, there’s a opportunity to really affect the lives of the youth in Haiti. It’s one thing to say, ‘Get involved.’ It’s another thing to actually do it.”

Indian Wedding Elephant Shocks Los Angeles [Video]

ONLY IN LA.

Well, only in LA and perhaps Bangalore.

A few months ago, I was in Santa Monica on Ocean Avenue adjacent to the world-famous Santa Monica Pier. What I witnessed that day was certainly a first for me and I am sure everyone else around me as well.  And as luck would have it, I had neither a camera nor my cell phone in tow, so, I could not take pictures of the most unbelievable scene transpiring before my eyes.

I have since relayed the story to many, but none have believed me due to the sheer absurdity of the tale and my lack of proof.

You see, what I saw that day was an oddity. Even for LA. I see a lot of weird things in LA but this was beyond my imagination or comprehension. I saw hordes of people dressed in wedding gear, walking, dancing and singing down Ocean Avenue, alongside the usual bumper-to-bumper cars that travel on the road, but all following a real-life giant-sized elephant which was prancing down the same street. For a moment, I forgot where I was. Then it hit me: “Yes, I am in LA and in fact on one of its most popular streets. And no, this is not normal.”

Apparently, I was wrong. Elephants on the street have actually become norm in LA. And thanks to my good friend Raha Lewis of amiintrouble.com, I now have the proof that yes, elephants do roam the streets of LA.

Thank God I wasn’t imagining all of this…Watch for yourself.

Forbes Releases List of Top 10 Highest Paid Actresses 2009 – 2010

Forbes just released its annual list of the top 10 highest-paid actresses who defied the odds in a tough-Hollywood town and made the big bucks last year.

It’s no secret that it is much harder for actresses than actors to land great leading roles in Hollywood, especially for women over 40. It is even tougher for the women to be paid on equal footing to their male actor counterparts.

But don’t tell Sandra Bullock any of that because she will tell you her story is a little bit different.

Last year, Bullock rocked Hollywood, first with her romantic comedy The Proposal which grossed $320 million on an estimated budget of $40 million. And then with The Blind Side five months later which earned another $310 million at the box office on an estimated budget of only $30 million. Way to go Sandra.

Between her earnings on The Proposal and The Blind Side, Sandra Bullock earned $56 million between June 2009 and June 2010, which made her the number 1 Hollywood leading lady last year.

To figure out actresses’ earnings, Forbes spoke with agents, managers, producers and attorneys to determine what the stars earned as upfront pay on movies they are currently shooting, as well as back-end pay earned after a movie hit theaters. They also looked at any money actresses might have earned from perfume and clothing lines and from ad campaigns.

Surprisingly, Reese Witherspoon came in second on Forbes’ list of Hollywood’s best-paid actresses with a whopping $32 million over the past year. You are right, Witherspoon hasn’t been seen on the big screen since 2008’s Four Christmases (though she did lend her voice to Monsters Vs. Aliens). But thanks to upfront pay from two movies: How Do You Know and Water for Elephants, she is propelled to number 2.

Cameron Diaz ties Witherspoon at second with $32 million. Jennifer Aniston ranks fourth with $27 million. Sarah Jessica Parker wins fifth place with $25 million thanks to Sex and the City.

7. Angelina Jolie: $20 million
8. Drew Barrymore: $15 million
9. Meryl Streep: $13 million
10. Kristen Stewart: $12 million

Idol Auditions Continue With Only Ryan Seacrest And No Judges [Video]

Even Ryan Seacrest has no idea who will be on the American Idol judging panel come Season 10 but says the judges will be in panel by mid-September.

A few days ago, we reported the rumor buzz that Kara DioGuardi has been fired by the show’s producers. If that  rumor is in fact true, this would leave Randy Jackson as the only Idol judge possibly returning next year, leaving 2-3 seats yet to be filled by new judges depending on whether Idol continues with a 3 or 4-judge panel.

Since auditions for Season 10 have already started, we also voiced the question: Who the heck is judging the early round of auditions? Well, Ryan answers that question in the video below taken from auditions held yesterday in New Jersey.

In the video, one reporter asked another questions which many of us want answered: “How will Idol replace the distinct personality Simon Cowell brought to the show.

Seacrest is seen responding: “You can’t replace it. You just go in a different direction.”

Ali Fedotowsky & Roberto Martinez Caught By Paparazzi [Video]

  Ali Fedotowsky chose Roberto Martinez on the finale of The Bachelorette last night and I could not be happier for the couple!

They are just adorable together and I think they may actually beat the odds and make it – well, at least as long as other couples make it these days who don’t meet on a reality show!

The Paparazzi caught up with the cute duo last night as they were leaving Jimmy Kimmel Live. Not sure why the tape ends with rant of an unknown voice, so, just ignore him!  Best of luck to the two.

Rainn Wilson & Ferraby Lionheart Make Music Video Together [Video]

  Rainn Wilson (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen; Juno; The Rocker; The Office; Six Feet Under), makes his music video debut in his friend Ferraby Lionheart‘s music video, Harry and Bess.

The two met through their shared belief in The Baha’i Faith about a decade ago and have been great friends ever since. Wilson says of Ferraby to EW.com: “He had a band with his cousin who’s a good friend of mine called Telecast, and I used to go follow them. I’m just a big fan of his, his very unique vocal and song style. He reminds me of one of those old troubadours, like a strange ’20s lounge singer… Is that the wrong word? He’s just kind of from some other time.”
