Dancing With the Stars Season 16 Premiere RECAP 3/18/13

“Dancing With The Stars” premiered its season 16 tonight March 18, 2013 and right off the bat, we had new changes: Two new dances will be debuted this season: contemporary and jazz and three new professional dancers will join the cast: Lindsay Arnold, Sharna Burgess & Gleb Savchenko.

Below is a full show recap for the season premiere including judges’ comments and scores:

DWTS 3/18/13 SHOW RECAP:
Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough
Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Judges’ comments: Len: Yum, yum, pink fun. You came out and sold it. Great start to the season. Bruno: That’s the way we do it. Very, very interesting. But you need a little more work in the leg. Carrie Ann: Fantastic, with incredibke torso movement. Kellie’s got class and sass.
SCORES: 7+7+7 = 21/30

Victor Ortiz and Lindsay Arnold
Dance: Foxtrot
Judges’ comments: Bruno: Very light-footed. What a wonderful combination of boyish charm and Latino passion. Must work on frame.  Carrie Ann: His posture was great and open. Len: Not impressed. Wants more dancing, less lifts.
SCORES: 6+6+6 = 18/30

Ingo Rademacher and Kym Johnson
Dance: Contemporary
Judges’ comments: Carrie Ann: Reslly liked it! She wanted to see the raw passion and saw that. Len: Wanted more, asked for his socks to be knocked off next week. Bruno: Liked it and said it was like watching Bradley Cooper in “Silver Linings Playbook”
SCORES: 7+6+7 = 20/30

Lisa Vanderpump and Gleb Sengchenko
Dance: Foxtrot
Judges’ comments: Len: It wasn’t exceptional but was acceptable. Lift your ribcage. Bruno: Liked her lines but said she couldn’t sustain her posture. Carrie Ann: The dance suited her, but she was out of sync a little bit and stumbled.
SCORES: 6+6+6 = 18/30

D.L. Hughley and Cheryl Burke
Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Judges’ comments: Bruno: OMG, you have terminated the Cha Cha Cha. Underrehearsed. Carrie Ann: Yikes. It was disjointed. Practice more for next week. Len: This was rough. He has to work his butt off for next week’s Quickstep.
SCORES: 4+4+4 = 12/30. OUCH!

Zendaya Coleman and Val Chmerkovskiy
Dance: Contemporary
Judges’ comments: Carrie Ann:  Way to ‘Shake it Up.’ That was amazing, beautiful and a fantastic dancer. Immense maturity (for a 16 year old!). Len: That was great. Bruno: Superb debut on Dancing With The Stars. She is inspiring. Wonderful choreography.
SCORES: 8+8+8 = 24/30

Sean Lowe and Peta Murgatroyd
Dance: Foxtrot
Judges’ comments: Len: He liked it, but not a lot. Lacked finesse, but his posture was good. Sean needs to calm down and be more refined. Bruno: Effective pelvic thrust: it was like a Chippendales version of a ballroom dance. Needed refinement and finesse. Carrie Ann: He has fearless exuberance! Will go far in the show.
SCORES: 7+6+6 = 19/30

Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas
Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Judges’ comments: Bruno: Ooooh La La, she can shake it with the best. Very surprising and inspiring. He was impressed, but stretch out back knee.
Carrie Ann: She has potential, but don’t be so safe. Len: He loved the vitality. But needs crisper legs.
SCORES: 7+7+7 = 21/30

Dorothy Hamill and Tristan MacManus
Dance: Contemporary
Judges’ comments:Carrie Ann: Golden! Len: Outstanding beauty. Bruno: Deeply felt, great connection with Tristan. Some balancing issues.
SCORES: 7-7-7 = 21/30

Wynona Judd and Tony Dovolani
Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Judges’ comments: Len: She showed rhythm  personality. Good job. Bruno: Good timing. Give it more. Carrie Ann: She was workin’ it and livin large with her own style. Give it more.
SCORES: 6+6+6 = 18/30

Andy Dick and Sharna Burgess
Dance: Foxtrot
Judges’ comments: Bruno: It had a skittish charm and could’ve been smoother. It was Iike watching Woody Allen doing the fox trot. He liked the comedic style. Carrie Ann: There is something charming about him and he touched her inside. Needs more work though. Len: The choreography was nice. This had the fluidity of RoboCop and too jerky.
SCORES: 6+5+6 = 17/30

Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff
Dance: Cha Cha Cha
Judges’ comments: Carrie Ann: She loved it. It was a medley of touchdown dances. He’s got the moves. Len: Terrible technique. It was all icing and no cake. Bruno: Season 16 sex machine! He has the potential to be the season 16 champion, but he has to control his posture
SCORES: 7+6+7 = 20/30
