LIVE SHOW RECAP:
-The judges have brought back Diamond White!! It is now a Top 13!!
-Tonight’s theme is songs from the movies.

ARIN RAY
Arin starts the show by singing American Boy by Estelle. LA Reid says Arin did a great job. He says Arin is a different person from the first time LA met him and he just found his vocal identity. Lovato is in shock and speechless at how well he did and Simon Cowell is super impressed and says Britney Spears has done a great job in turning Arin into a star.

PAIGE THOMAS
Paige sings “Take My Breath Away” by Berlin from Top Gun. L.A. thinks the song production was amazing and she seemed angelic though he wasn’t completely blown away. Britney said the beginning was the best part of the performance and that she had so much passion. Simon said Demi should have used a little more imagination on the stage because Paige is a fantastic performer. Demi said there should’ve been flames and she’s “so sorry” that she let her down.

VINO ALAN
Vino sings “When A Man Loves A Woman”. Britney thought Vino’s performance was really stripped and it showed off his unique and special voice. Demi said it was a phenomenal performance. She said Vino poured his heart and soul into it…all that, Demi still can’t see Vino as a pop singer. Simon agreed that Vino put his heart and soul into that performance. He also said Vino is a good man. L.A. said Vino nailed it.

EMBLEM3
Emblem3 sings a mashup of “My Girl” and Katy Perry’s “California Gurls”. L.A. said they’re perfect and they don’t give him a chance to criticize. Britney was blown away at how the boys made the song their own. Demi thinks they sound like One Direction. Simon loved their energy and thinks they’re fun to watch.

BEATRICE MILLER
Beatrice performed “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls. L.A. said the tone of her voice sounds like a hit record. Demi said Beatrice put her soul into the song and she blows her mind. Simon said it was a difficult song to sing but Beatrice is great. Britney plugged Beatrice’s personality as the best in the competition and said she’s special.

JENNEL GARCIA
Jennel sang Joan Jett & The Blackhearts I Love Rock N Roll. LA Reid thought it came across as a “Joan Jett parody” and he did not get it. Simon doesn’t like it one bit and thinks Demi made a mess of her–he said she looks unrecognizable from the time they met her first. He said she’s better than a cover song singer and needs to challenge herself. Demi tells Simon that’s why she is Jennel’s mentor and not Simon.

TATE STEVENS
Tate sings Bon Jovi’s “Wanted Dead Or Alive” but countrified. Britney called Tate a true cowboy and a slice of America. Demi called Tate sweet and said he has what it takes to be a star. Simon said tonight it feels that Tate has arrived back in this competition. L.A. says if America is in a voting mood, he hopes they vote for him.

LYRIC145
Lyric145 perform “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from Mary Poppins. LA hated it, because it was inventive and perfect. Britney loved their theatrics and said they were really intriguing and entertaining. Demi is super hyped by them. Simon thought it was a brave song choice and they did great.

DIAMOND WHITE
Diamond is back in the competition! She sang “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. L.A. called it an ambitious song choice, but said she brought it home and rose to the occasion  Demi said she is trying hard not to cry because she is a huge fan of Whitney Houston. She says this performance tugged at her heart. Simon said this proves that dreams do come true and says Diamond came back gutsy and fighting! He is happy to see her back in the competition. Britney said that she channeled Whitney in that performance and she would’ve been proud.

CECE FREY
CeCe sings Survivor’s song “Eye Of The Tiger”.
L.A. called it a strong ending but it didn’t blow him away as a whole. Britney felt that CeCe was a rebel out there with fire. She said it was a courageous performance. Simon thought it was horrible and added that anything recognizable about her from the beginning has been thrown away–I agree. He added that CeCe is being lead in a direction that she shouldn’t be taking and the song choice wasn’t good for her. Demi said CeCe has transformed into the performer that she wants to be.

CARLY ROSE SONENCLAR
Carly Rose sang “It Will Rain” by Bruno Mars. LA called it heartfelt and honest. Demi called Carly Rose incredible and thinks this is her in her element. Simon agreed and called it a huge improvement over last week. He said she has a lot of guts for her age. He also said they are watching a star in the making. Britney said that she feels Carly should have been the performer to close the show tonight because no one else can follow that performance.

JASON BROCK
Jason sang R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” from “Space Jam”. Britney thought he was better than last week though she still thinks of him as a Vegas lounge act. Demi called it predictable and very cabaret. Simon said he doesn’t believe Jason could fly. He blamed the way Jason is dressed because he looks like a singer in an Italian restaurant. Jason needs a lot of work Simon thinks. L.A. said it’s not up to the judges, it’s up to the public and Jason can fly.

FIFTH HARMONY (formerly known as 1432, formerly known before that as Lylas)
Fifth Harmony sings a song from “Twilight”, “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. L.A. won’t comment anymore on the name since it was chose by America. But he does say he was impressed with their singing and that they nailed it. Britney said they shined the whole way and impressed here. Demi did not feel crazy about the arrangement of the song but still loved their vocals on it. Simon said there is something incredibly exciting about them.

  1. Unfortunately, the show got off to a rocky start. There were as many flops as there were successes, which is not too good when you have a baker’s dozen to choose from. My favorite from the night was Carly Rose Sonenclar, who, belted out that song like she was a pro. It’s amazing how much a song choice can make the difference. Normally I watch the show with my DISH coworker, but I was home and I couldn’t resist watching live. Most of the time my schedule is erratic, but I use my Hopper from DISH to automatically record all of the four major networks at night with PrimeTime Anytime. That way I don’t miss any of my favorite shows like X Factor because the timer didn’t get set.
