Katie Holmes filed for divorce from her husband of five years (Tom Cruise) last Friday–a move that surprised everyone. But before Katie dropped the bombshell, she had opened up to Elle magazine for its August 2012 issue, which hits newsstands on July 17.
In the interview, the 33-year-old actress seems to drop hints on the impending separation. Here are a few excerpts from that interview:
On Tom Cruise:
“He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years, I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that.”
On starting fresh in her 30s:
“I feel sexier. I think in my 20s, it’s like you’re trying too hard to figure everything out…I’m starting to come into my own. It’s like a new phase.”On being her own person:
“Things are not handed to anyone. If anything, you work a little bit harder when you’re in such visible circumstances.”
