FIRST SONGThe Show Must Go On
Judges’ comments:
Jennifer: “I got goosies on that one. It is crazy that you’re only 18 years old. You really articulate the story. It was powerful. It was great.”
Randy: “That was incredible dude. One of your best performances yet. I believe you. It was effortless….that was phenomenal.”
Steven: “That was over the top! …You have such a beautiful voice and pitch and they enhanced it..the energy, the passion, the way you hit our notes …for an 18 year old girl, oh my God, that was fabulous!”

SECOND SONG: Tattoos on this Town by Jason Aldean
Randy: “You hit that big note at the end. I am a gymormous fan…You are fearless, you go after that note…Another great performance.”
Jennifer: “You are so comfortable up there…you took us there again. There you go. You sleighed it.”
Steven: “You didn’t take that song where you’ve taken every other song. I kind of missed the flare. But I am a big fan.”

Jessica Sanchez:

FIRST SONGBohemian Rhapsody
Judges’ comments:
Steven: “I think Freddie Mercury would have been proud to hear that. Rock isn’t your forte…but I still love your voice and you were good today.”
Jennifer: “You sounded beautiful singing.” But she said she wanted to see more of a rock performance, running around, especially since she was wearing sneakers. “Great performance overall.”
Randy: He loved it. And he loved that she had no runs in it–different than her usual.SECOND SONG:

Dance with My Father by Luther Vandross
Jennifer: “Luther Vandross is one of my favorite singers. Ever. Of all time. And that may be the best we have ever heard that song sang. And we have heard a lot of people sing that song. …The tenderness, the feeling, your vocal ability…it was the most beautiful I have ever heard it.”
Randy: “You are truly amazing to me. You are so natural…And now you have the feeling in there.”
Steven: “I don’t think you can sing a song bad. Your voice is so different that anyone else’s. It kind of touches on Whitney, but I think you have your own thing going on…And to watch you evolve…it’s been a joy, pleasure and honor for me…so, thank you.”

Joshua Ledet:

FIRST SONGPretty Little Thing Called Love
Judges’ comments: After a standing ovation.
Randy: “That was unbelievable…Dude, you are so ready…you remind me of Sam Cook. You just have that thing. I love it. Amazing.”
Jennifer: “I love all of our singers…Is it bad to say that Joshua’s part is my favorite part of the show…it’s just a surprise every time. So good.”
Steven: “You have such a classic style. It sounds like no body else. Freddie would love this.”

SECOND SONG:
Ready For Love by India Arie
STANDING OVATION BY THE JUDGES AGAIN. [Per Skyler, that was standing O # 12.]
Randy: “I don’t even know what to say anymore. I am just speechless. Another unbelievable performance. So spot on..so beyond your age. Beautiful. Wow.”
Steven: “Crazy good. I hope the label finds you a bunch of good songs and you are off to the moon.”
Jennifer: “That was transcendent. You snap us back in reality…You bring us so present. It’s such a gift.”

Hollie Cavanagh:
Voting Telephone Number / Text: 1-866-436-5706 or text “vote” to 5706
FIRST SONGSave Me
Judges’ comments:
Steven: “I love the way you sing… I think you did a really good job with it.”
Jennifer: “I really felt you get emotional in the middle of that. Unfortunately, when you did that, it did go off a bit…I wanna see you enjoy it more..I want to see you smile for real. To get upset for real. I still see you thinking…You should perform..you should have a good time.”
Randy: “It was a good performance.” He told her she needs to have a “moment” and that song did not do it for you.

SECOND SONGThe Climb by Miley Cyrus
GETS STANDING OVATION FROM JUDGES. Well-deserved Hollie! That song probably saved her from elimination!
Randy: “That’s the Hollie Cavanagh that we love. That’s the one! Hollie’s back! That was beautiful. Perfect song for you. Perfect, perfect.”
Jennifer: “That was stepping it up, you said it backstage ‘I gotta do it’ and you did.”
Steven: “Doesn’t matter what accent you have you sing a song like it’s going out of style. It was just so beautiful. Good for you.”

Phillip Phillips:
Voting Telephone Number / Text: 1-866-436-5705 or text “vote” to 5705
FIRST SONGFat Bottomed Girls
Judges’ comments:
Steven: “I love watching you sing. I loved watching you run out of breath. When you sing, it’s that character that nobody else has. Beautiful. Great choice of song.”
Jennifer: “You know what I love about you…I feel like you give us different flavors even though you sing songs the same and they’re yours, we get a different side of you. People say you remind them of Dave Matthews. That didn’t remind me of Dave Matthews at all. That was something totally different.”
Randy: “I liked it, but did I love it and was I jumping up and down? No. It was good, but I don’t know if it was ‘Oh my God,’ but it was good.”

SECOND SONG:
The Stone by Dave Matthews Band
Steven: “Very entertaining. Very off the wall. Typical Phillip Phillips… I like that you take chances like that. I think you found your niche. That’s great man.”
Jennifer: “It was a pretty song. It was just a bit too artsy and at this point in the competition, I just feel like song is so important because each one of you has a shot to win. Especially you Phillip, so I get a little bit scared when you do stuff like that. There will be a time and place that you can do that whenever you want. This is not that place right now. I need you to do a songs that get you on that last show so you can win. OK?”
Randy: “I have to disagree with Jennifer on this one…I was worried because this is a Dave Matthews song because people are always comparing you to Dave Matthews. But what you just did instead is you showed your true colors once again. Your Phil Phillips. You’re an artist. You love being an artist…You’re a true artist…I loved that you showed this artist side. Die sink or swim, Phillip Phillips will always be Phillip Phillips. He stands behind who he is, what he is and where he’s going. I love that…I am a musician first and that speaks to me.”

Note: Julianne Hough, Ryan Seacrest’s girlfriend, was backstage and called Phillip “YUMMY!” Can’t say I blame her.

Elise Testone:
Voting Telephone Number / Text:1-866-436-5704  or text “vote” to 5704
FIRST SONGI Want it All
Judges’ comments:
Steven: “You found your stride. That’s what we’ve been waiting for you to do..with the right song. That was great.”
Jennifer: “To me, that was you in your element. That was natural, that was sexy. You look great. You sounded great. The whole thing just came together for you.”
Randy: “That was unbelievable. That style of song is so right for you..bluesy…brilliant man. That was one of your best performances.”

SECOND SONG:
Bold As Love  by Jimi Hendrix
Steven: “I love the Janis Joplin about you. And you touched my heart with a Jimi Hendrix song like that. But you got to do the songs people know. You can’t pick the cherries with your back to the trees… But I loved it nevertheless.”
Jennifer: “I know what Steven is saying, but I just feel that you sleighed that song so hard that it doesn’t even matter….your interpretation is even getting better… You’re one of the best singers in this competition.”
Randy: “I’m a huge Hendrix fan. I’m a huge Elise fan. For me, it wasn’t the right song for this time in the competition.” He said she complicated a simple song. “Once again, you were boxing with a song….I didn’t like it.”
