American Idol fan fave, Colton Dixon, is a devout Christian who would rather lose the Idol crown than hide his faith and religious beliefs.

The season 11 finalist told Today that Idol producers have warned him to avoid coming across as overtly religious online, adding that this may turn off potential fans and voters.

“When we first started the Twitter and Facebook stuff, they said beware of political and religious tweets,” Dixon said. “Just because it can turn off voters or whatever.”

“But, you know, being a Christian is who I am,” Dixon explained. “It is a part of me musically. It is what I want to do after the show – go into Christian music.”

Instead of heeding the producer’s advice, Dixon posted the following on his Facebook page Saturday: “I am not of this world.” He added, “We were created to spend eternity with the Lord. We all have purpose. No one is less important than the other. He died for YOU.”

Colton just does not put his faith into practice online. He also prays quite frequently. The singer told Today: “I wake up and I do devotional every morning.” He added, “It reminds me why I am here, which is to share the love of God. I know there are several other contestants who can say the exact same thing. But it is a part of me and I want to share it — no matter what, good or bad outcome. It is me.”
