Wesley Snipes Will Serve 3 Years In Prison For Tax Evasion-Appeal Denied

Looks like another celebrity is heading to jail soon.  In 2008, Wesley Snipes was found guilty of tax evasion for failing to file a tax return for several years, owing the government $12 million dollars.

Snipes appealed the sentencing as being “unreasonable” and has been out on bond since the appeal. But a federal appeals court denied Snipe’s appeal on Friday, meaning Snipes will now have to serve the previously-ordered 36-month prison term.

Sounds like a harsh sentence. But if there is one thing every American should know is that one can’t mess with Uncle Sam when it comes to taxes. They will know if you owe them, they will know where to find you, and they will make you pay sooner or later. All of this holds especially true if you are famous and don’t file a return. So, we all might as well pay sooner and avoid the slammer.

UPDATE 7/21. Federal prosecutors asked a judge today to revoke bail for Snipes and order him to enter prison immediately.  “There is no good reason to delay his surrender,” prosecutors argued in a motion to revoke Snipes’ bail, according to court records. A hearing on the motion is pending.
