2013 Oscar Fashion: Best & Worst of The Red Carpet [PHOTOS]

All of the stars played it safe on the 2013 Oscars Red Carpet, with a few exceptions. Here is a run down of the 2013 Academy Awards best and worst of fashion: The most exciting fashion look on the carpet was 9 year old Quvenzhané Wallis with her adorable blue dress and always present puppy purse. Most of the other ladies who hit the carpet played it safe in predictable colors, shapes and designers.

Quvenzhané Wallis 2013 Oscars Dress

The only major fails on the carpet were from the usual suspects. Helena Bonham Carter opted for her usual “Night of the Living Dead” look. The star sported a ghastly Vivienne Westwood gown.

The other major fail of the night came from… surprise; surprise a “Real Housewife.” Leave it to “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Brandi Glanville to bring trashy realness to the red carpet. Brandi was a hot, slutty mess in a barely there nude colored monstrosity that left little to the imagination- the bodice of her gown was cut so low, she was a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. Who can we blame for this fashion faux paux… Brandi herself- Brandi and her designer from her BrandB line designed the dress. Yes, Brandi has a clothing line. BrandB doesn’t really capture the essence her clothing, I think a more appreciate name would be Slutty Couture or Street Walker Chic.

Elsewhere on the red carpet, shimmer, embellishment and heavy beading were big trends tonight.

Halle Berry 2013 Oscar dress

Halle Berry is a presenter tonight. She introduced the James Bond musical tribute and was every bit the bombshell in her black/grey beaded custom-made Versace dress with a plunging neckline.

Adele 2013 Oscars Dress Skyfall

Another Bond Girl- Adele, who is nominated for her theme song to this year’s Bond movie- “Skyfall” also opted to go for the glitter. She wore a black beaded, shimmery Jenny Packham dress and commented that she “felt like Beyonce” in it.

Naomi watts 2013 Oscar dress

Naomi Watts- Best Actress nominee (The Impossible) made her mark on the red carpet in a dramatic, edgy, gunmetal gray, metallic Armani Prive dress.

Sandra Bullock 2013 oscar dress

Sandra Bullock is a presenter tonight and looked beautiful in a sheer, black lace beaded Elie Saab Haute Couture gown. At 48 years old she is still one of the best looking ladies in Hollywood.

Jessica Chastain 2013 Oscar Dress

Jessica Chastain- The Best Actress nominee (Zero Dark Thirty) opted for old Hollywood glamour and looked amazing in a coppery-nude sequin Armani Prive dress. She conjured memories of Jessica Rabbit with her long flowing red hair and va va voom dress.

Stacey Kiebler 2013 oscar dress

Stacy Keibler- George Clooney’s ever present plus one brought her A game to the red carpet. She wowed in a Halter top, black/gray Naeem Khan dress. Well done Stacy, your dress is almost as hot as your date.

Another popular look on the red carpet tonight was blue. Ladies like Reese Witherspoon, Helen Hunt and Robin Roberts gave us the blues…in a good way.

Reese Whiterspoon 2013 Oscar Dress

Reese Witherspoon- The Oscar winner looked stunning in cobalt blue Louis Vuitton gown that her daughter Ava helped her pick out. Hard to believe she just had a baby a few months ago!

Robin Roberts hosted the Oscar pre-show for ABC and looked stunning in a blue velvet dress by Marc Bouwer. As if we needed another reason to love her.

Amy Adams 2013 Oscars dress

Amy Adams is nominated for Best Supporting Master (The Master) she wore a pale blue, princess dress designed by Oscar de la Renta. I know I am in the minority on this one, but I didn’t love it. I think the color washed her out and it was too cutesy, she looked like she was about to audition for “Cinderella.”

Helen Hunt 2013 Oscar Dress

Helen Hunt pulled a Sharon Stone (famously wore a Gap turtleneck to the Oscars in 1996) and wore a completely accessible designer… H&M. The Best Supporting Actress nominee wore a navy blue dress, but don’t worry she classed it up a bit by wearing $700,000 worth of jewelry.

Now we move from blue to blah and boring.

Jennifer Aniston 2013 Oscar dress

Jennifer Aniston is a presenter tonight and looked as boring as ever. She wore a yawn inducing red Valentino dress paired with her usual blah, hair and makeup.

Amanda Seyfried 2013 Oscar Dress

This is another one I know I’m going to get heat for but Ms. Amanda Seyfried I expected more. She should have saved the stunning navy blue Zac Posen gown she wore to the SAG Awards for Oscar night instead of the custom Alexander McQueen gown she wore tonight.

Octavia Spencer 2013 oscar dress

Octavia Spencer- If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That seems to be the Oscar winners motto. She stuck with her designer of choice, Tadashi Shoji. He has been a mainstay for her. She looked beautiful, in her tulle one-shoulder gown.

Color, as usual was a mainstay on the Oscar red carpet.

Jennifer Garner 2013 Oscar Dress

Jennifer Garner, one half of Hollywood’s golden couple (sshh…don’t tell Brad and Angie) looked gorgeous in a purple, ruffled Gucci gown.

Kerry Washington 2013 Oscar Dress

Kerry Washington rocked a coral Miu Miu dress with beaded, embellished bodice.

Zoe Saldana 2013 Oscar Dress

Zoe Saldana stunned in a strapless gray Alexis Mabille Couture gown with floral applique.

Extra correspondent Maria Menounos looked like Barbie’s kid sister Skipper in a bubble gum pink dress and bouffant hairdo.

Anne Hathaway 2013 Oscar Dress

Anne Hathaway was also pretty in a pink Prada gown complete with side boob, and front boob. Anne please wear nip pads next time. Your headlights were on and the world was watching.

Jane Fonda 2013 Oscar Dress

Jane Fonda never seems to age; she looked gorgeous in a yellow Atelier Versace gown. The 75 year old star put women half her age to shame.

Jennifer Lawrence 2013 Oscars Dress
Jennifer Lawrence- The “Best Actress” nominee (Silver Linings Playbook) showed up in a bridal like Dior Haute Couture dress. She looked beautiful but I keep waiting to hear “here comes the bride” as she made her way down the red carpet.

Sally Field 2013 Oscar Dress
Sally Field had a hot dress and an even hotter date. The 66 year old star turned heads in her stunning red Valentino gown. She arrived with “Lincoln” co-star, Joseph Gordon Levitt who is suddenly looking all grown up. There is an adorable picture floating around twitter of her fixing his bow tie in the car on the way to the red carpet. These two were definitely my favorite couple of the night.

Charlize Theron 2013 oscars dress

Charlize Theron– This is what I wrote down when I saw her- short hair. Dior. Stunning. Nuff said.

Men’s fashion on the Oscar red carpet is typically pretty standard but it takes a special man to make a basic tux look good. The must have accessory for the men tonight other than a hot date was… a beard.

Bradley Cooper Oscar 2013

Bradley Cooper- I think this tweet sums it up best “the only thing better than Bradley Cooper is Bradley Cooper in a tux.”

Channing Tatum 2013Oscars

Channing Tatum- To quote a friend of mine on facebook, “he makes my teeth sweat.”

George Clooney- In his Giorgio Armani tux George was old Hollywood at its best, but I could do without the beard.

Ben Affleck- Gorgeous as usual, but see above regarding the beard.

Hugh Jackman 2013 Oscar

Hugh Jackman looked like a dream in a Tom Ford tux.
