Russell Simmons Credits The Success Of His Business To The Women Working Alongside Him

Russell Simmons, co-founder of hip-hop label Def Jam, creator of the clothing fashion line Phat Farm, an entrepreneur, entertainment and fashion icon, philanthropist, and yogi, was recently named one of the “Top 25 Most Influential People of the Past 25 Years,” by USA Today.

The newspaper called Simmons a “hip-hop pioneer” for his groundbreaking vision which has influenced music, fashion,  television and film and finance.

It takes many people to run Simmons’ empire and Simmons gives all credit for his mega media empire to his staff of beautiful ladies. The running of his empire is documented on the Oxygen reality series, Running Russell Simmons.

The show’s motto reads: Behind every good man is a great woman, but behind every American mogul stands several great women. Running Russell Simmons offers an exclusive peek at the life of Russell Simmons — and the powerful team which helps to keep the machine running. Simmons’ assistants not only know the ins and outs of his business deals, but also have a hand in managing his family life and party planning: a 24/7 commitment.

Simmons was at The Grove in Los Angeles for a quick chat with Mario Lopez of Extra. Lopez asked Simmons: “Can anyone learn to be a successful person?” Simmons answered: I wrote a book about it. Super Rich – Good givers are great getters. Success is the more you give, the more you get.”

Chris Rock Saves Pregnant Woman -By Telling Jokes

Ladies – If you went into labor in middle of a shopping mall, which celeb would you want by your side to keep you calm until real help arrived? I know, this is a silly question, but one woman found herself in this exact predicament while shopping in a New Jersey Mall for the holidays.

According to US, the lady was approaching an escalator in a Neiman Marcus department store at  Garden State Plaza and her water suddenly broke, sending her into labor. Lucky for this woman, funny man Chris Rock was only a few feet away and rushed to her side.

Quickly thinking on his feet and relying on the old adage that laughter is the best medicine, Rock started to, well, he started to be himself. He told jokes to keep the woman calm until real help arrived.

“He was making the crowd, and the woman in labor, laugh,” a witness said of the world-renowned comic. “She recognized who he was immediately, and he stayed there until the paramedics took her away.”

OK–that’s just too cute – Chris, you get my comic in funny shining armor award!

James Franco Admits He Watched Live Man-On-Man Sex As Part Of His Acting Research

Call me old fashioned. Or call me a cynic. But I just think some actors use “researching a role” as an excuse to downplay some of the questionable activities they engage in while in pursuit of their “art.”

Take what James Franco told James Lipton during an interview for Inside the Actors Studio for example. Franco spoke of the time when, researching a role, he actually ended up watching a gigolo have sex with a man. In person.

“I found this guy that was kind of a perfect model,” Franco explained. “He claimed to service both males and females. He took me on one of his jobs.”

At the time, Franco was researching the role of a male prostitute which he was to play in 2002’s Sonny. So he followed the real-life male gigolo role model into a strip club to talk and things went in a different direction than Franco says he had planned.

The gigolo’s friend came over to them and said, ” ‘Oh, you wanna play a prostitute? You want some real research? Then come with us.'” Franco continued: “It went down. Everything went down, as you see in the movies and hear about. The eerie thing is, it was like a movie, but it wasn’t a movie. It was the real thing, happening in front of me.”

I don’t know–I just don’t buy it. If it were really eerie, couldn’t he just have walked away and sacrificed his research instead of staying and risk becoming a mere voyeur? I mean, really, how much real-life experience was needed anyway for Sonny, a Rated-R movie? I now wonder what Julia Roberts had to do to prepare for her role in Pretty Woman. To each his own I guess.
Watch Franco tell the whole story himself and tell me what you think.

OUCH! Just Ouch. Not Everybody Loves The Kardashians

OMG! STOP THE PRESSES!!! Because it just can’t be. I know it would sound insane and idiotic if I print it, but it appears that NOT everyone is in love with the stylistic endeavors of the self-made fashion divas, also known as The Kardashian Sisters.

Jon Caramanica, a fashion critic who happens to write for the Fashion & Style section of The New York Times has stood up and voiced his extreme dislike for the newly-opened Kardashian boutique, DASH NYC.
And by extreme dislike, I mean to say he describes the joint creation of fashionistas Kim, Khloé and Kourtney as “a fashion desert, just oodles of drapey cowl necks and embellished cap sleeves and synthetic fibers.” OUCH!

As if that isn’t graphically-horrid enough, Caramanica continues, “Clothes are essentially split into two categories of fit: vacuum-sealed and hot-air balloon.”

Caramanica reiterates the feelings of one of his co-critics by calling the pricey fashion “high-end knock-offs–which is to say, overpriced knockoffs of already overpriced things.” Continuing on his warpath, he says, “Some items were baffling. Even Khloé on her worst pre-marriage day might have struggled with the pink fur shrug ($484).”
Things go from bad to worse in the review. Referring to a $430 hat, the fashonista critic comments: “You could wear this look, in the same way you could hire an enthusiastic 5-year-old as your stylist.”
You can read more of the review for yourself – I don’t have the heart to summarize the review more than I already have!
They say there is no such thing as bad press.  So, I wonder if this review will be the nail in the coffin for the latest location of this chain retail store or if it ends up piquing the interest of otherwise not-so-inclined consumers to go looking. Only time will tell.

But don’t feel too bad for the K sisters. They do just fine financially without the aid of DASH NYC. Each of the three sisters made the top ten highest money-earning reality stars, raking in an estimated total of $11 million.

So, Who Were Barbara Walters’ Final And Top Two Most Fascinating People?

We already knew 8 of Barbara Walter’s picks for the 10 Most Fascinating People of 2010. Those 8 were:

    • Cast of Jersey Shore
    • Kate Middleton
    • Sandra Bullock
    • Sarah Palin
    • Jennifer Lopez
    • Betty White
    • Justin Bieber
    • LeBron James

Tonight, we found out the identity of the last two. One, I had correctly guessed to be Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook. The other one, who was Barb’s pick for the most fascinating person of 2010, I believe took every one by surprise: General David Petraeus.

General Petraeus is a United States Army general who serves as the current Commander, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan. He was appointed by President Barack Obama to replace former Gen. Stanley McChrystal as the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan.

Barbs explains General Petraeus is kind of a “rock star” in the military.  Barb continued, “In life, it seems, there are people who break things and people who fix them. This man is a fixer. A lot depends on General Petraeus and his combination of humanity and strength.” It seems that in this war, it is a combination of compassion and firepower which is needed to combat the specific enemies facing the US in that terrain.

Petraeus believes in creating order by gaining the trust of the locals. In practice, this means constructing schools, teaching farmers new techniques, helping local businesses grow, bolstering the government to provide basic services to its own citizens, and maintaining peace to keep it from becoming a launching pad for terrorists.

Petraeus joins an eclectic and bizarre group for the title of “Most Fascinating Person,” as selected by Barb over the last 18 years of the list’s existence. Last year, first lady Michelle Obama was named the Most Fascinating person. In 2008, it was then President-elect Barack Obama. Past honorees include Laura Bush, J.K. Rowling, Nancy Pelosi, Paris Hilton, Camilla Parker Bowles, Lance Armstrong, Gen. Tommy Franks, Colin Powell, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Nelson Mandela and more. Yep, you read that correctly. The top honorees over the years have in fact included both Paris Hilton and Nelson Mandela. If that does not spell eclectic and bizarre, I don’t know what else would.

Googlers And Bingers Clash In Their Top 2010 Celeb Searches. Who Won The Celeb Battle?

    Kim Kardashian vs. Justin Bieber.

Who was the Queen or King of top searched celebrities in 2010? Depends on whether you ask Bing or Google.

Last week, I reported on the list of top 2010 celebrities searched on Bing. On that list, Kim Kardashian was the clearcut winner. Justin did not even crack the top 5. “How on earth is that possible, I thought?”  Justin is everywhere and has his hands and name on everything, including book writing, nail polish, bedding, and oh, ya, music.

But, this week, Google’s list of top 2010 searched celebs has been unveiled and the two search engines have turned up quite different results. Google gave the crown to Justin Bieber and has Kimmie coming in at three.

Since Google has, well a google more users than Bing, I guess Justin Bieber wins this battle of searches just like he has won every other battle it seems this year.

But the full list of results (below) make me wonder who the typical Bing Search user and the typical Google Search user is because each user certainly differs in his/her taste for “celebrities.”

Are you a Google guy/gal or a Binger? I myself am a Google girl but you couldn’t tell based on these results as I can’t fully relate to either…

Reese Witherspoon Jokes That She Probably Needs A Therapist

Reese Witherspoon is on the cover of Entertainment Weekly which hits the stands this Friday, December 10.

In the candid interview accompanying the cover, Reese, who stars opposite Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson in the upcoming romantic comedy How Do You Know, explains that her two-year break from acting wasn’t anything she planned. “I just didn’t read anything I liked,” she says.

In the EW issue the actress also talks about her divorce from Ryan Phillippe, dealing with pain and rumors, Googling herself, and why she might need a therapist.

    Here are some excerpts:

On dealing with a publicized divorce:
“It definitely sometimes feels like a suit that I wish I could zip off. But I don’t feel bad about any of the things I’ve gone through, whether it’s divorce or breakups or anything like that, because that’s all part of the life journey, and I have those experiences just like anyone else. And I think it deepens what you tap into creatively.”

    On dealing with pain:

“My favorite quote is from Martha Stewart: ‘I have a short memory for painful things.’ And I do. I have one of those incredible memories where I just erase painful things. Maybe that’s really unhealthy, and I probably need to see a therapist. But I don’t dwell. You just keep going forward. Also, I have kids. What are you going to do? Are you going to teach them to be one of those people who keep looking in the rearview mirror, or are you going to teach them to be one of those people who go, ‘Tomorrow’s another day’?”

On her mother handling Reese’s wedding rumors:

“My mom always texts me, like, ‘Are you getting married?’ ” Witherspoon says, laughing. “I’m like, ‘Mom, come on! You would know if I was getting married.’ ”

    On Googling herself:
“Oh, only in very, very dark moments—moments of pure self-loathing—do I type my name into Google. [Laughs] And I know what I’m in for. You never read anything positive—you always go straight to where you know they’re going to say something nasty about you.”
