Ricky Gervais: ” It Was All In Good Fun!”

What did you think of Ricky Gervais’ one-sided banter last night as he hosted the Golden Globe Awards? I felt it was just a bit too mean-spirited and don’t think most of the celebs he insulted liked his style either.

During the show, Robert Downey, Jr. said: “Aside from the fact that it’s been hugely mean-spirited with mildly sinister undertones, I’d say the vibe of the show’s pretty good so far, wouldn’t you?”

Even mild-mannered Tom Hanks took a jab back at Gervais during the award presentation by saying he could remember “when Ricky Gervais was a slightly chubby but very kind comedian.”

Here are just some of the comments Gervais made. What do you think: Funny or insulting?

  1. “It’s going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking. Or as Charlie Sheen calls it, “breakfast.”
  2. “Everything this year was three-dimensional, except the characters in The Tourist. I feel bad about that joke. I’m jumping on the bandwagon, because I haven’t even seen that movie. But who has?”
  3. “Our first presenter is beautiful, talented, and Jewish apparently. Mel Gibson told me that. He’s obsessed. Please welcome Scarlett Johansson.”
  4. “Next up, Eva Longoria has the daunting task of introducing the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press. That’s nothing, I just had to help him off the toilet and pop his teeth in.”
  5. “Do you want to go see Cher? No. Why not? Because it’s not 1975.”
  6. “There were a lot of big films that didn’t get nominated. Nothing for Sex and the City 2. I was sure the Golden Globes for special effects would go to the team which airbrushed that poster.”
  7. “Also not nominated I Love You Phillip Morris. Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor. Two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay. So, the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists.  My lawyers helped me with the wording of that joke.”
  8. “Who are our next presenter from such films as Hudson Hawk, Look Who’s Talking, Mercury Rising, Color of Night, The Fifth Element, Hart’s War. Please welcome Ashton Kutcher’s dad, Bruce Willis.”
  9. “I love this next presenter. He’s so cool. He’s the star of Iron Man. Two Girls and a Guy. Wonderboys. I’m sorry are these porn films? Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Bowfinger? Up the Academy. Come on! He has done all of those films, but many of you in this room probably know him best from such facilities as The Betty Ford Clinic and the Los Angeles County Jail. Robert Downey, Jr.”
  10. “I’d like to quash the rumors that the only reason The Tourist was nominated was so that the Hollywood Foreign Press can hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That is rubbish, that is not the only reason. They also accepted bribes.”
  11. My least favorite: “And thank you to God…… For making me an atheist.”

How did Gervais feel about his own performance? Here is what he told The Los Angeles Times after he finished ripping into all of Hollywood:

“I hope everyone took it well… I hope they can all take a bit of roasting from a nobody like me. Did I think twice about any of [the jokes]? No, I didn’t. I’d say any of that to their faces. I’d walk up to them and say it. That’s the test for me. And it’s in good fun.”

Leonardo DiCaprio Named Highest-Grossing 2010 Actor – See Top 10 List Here

Forbes has yet another list, and has named Leonardo DiCaprio the highest-grossing actor of the year.

That’s to be expected for DiCaprio who had two monster movies this year: Shutter Island and Inception. Inception alone made $825 million, quite an impressive feat considering it lacked the benefit of high-priced 3-D tickets inflating the total.

Surprisingly though, newcomer Mia Wasikowska, the breakout star of Alice in Wonderland, came in second! Crazy.

Here’s the top ten:

1. Leonardo DiCaprio $1.1 billion
2. Mia Wasikowska $1.03 billion
3. Johnny Depp $1.03 billion
4. Robert Downey Jr. $807 million
5. Daniel Radcliffe $780 million
6. Robert Pattinson $749 million
7. Kristen Stewart $698 million
8. Sam Worthington $494 million
9. Jaden Smith $359 million
10. Jackie Chan $359 million

Johnny Depp Catches Bieber Fever?

Here is something I never thought I would see: Johnny Depp at a Justin Bieber concert!

The super-duper-exclusive Depp was spotted at Bieber’s concert in Miami. How do we know? Singer Avery twitted the photo below, with this caption: “Me and Johnny Depp at the @justinbieber concert :)”

Amazing. Nothing against the Biebs, but I am hoping Johnny had taken his kids to the show and just got caught in a photo as an innocent bystander. That would make him the world’s coolest dad..well, that and the fact that he is Captain Jack Sparrow!

Movie Trailers: “Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides!”

Heeeeeeeeeeeee’s baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! WHO you ask? JACK SPARROW I say!

First, the studios released six official photos of Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz -from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.’

BUT now, we have two official trailers from the movie in which Sparrow and friends search for the fountain of youth!

ENJOY!

Pirates of The Caribbean: Six Official Photos Released! See ‘Em Here Mates

Only five more months until the immortal Captain Jack Sparrow will be back terrorizing the high seas. LOL. Well, you know, not exactly terrorizing. More like, charmingly stealing his way back into our hearts yet again.

On May 20, Johnny Depp will reprise the iconic role which he created from scratch as he once again sets foot into Captain Jack Sparrow’s mucky boots in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Continue reading

Johnny Depp: “Disney Executives Thought I Was Ruining Pirates Of The Carribean!”

When I say Johnny Depp graces the cover of the January issue of Vanity Fair, I do mean “graces!” Seriously, just look at the cover and you will know what I mean.

Depp can do anything. And he pretty much has. He has shined in some of Hollywood’s most intense, heavy and dark films (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, Sweeney Todd, Blow and Edward Scissorhands) yet has also made us all fall in love and be dazzled and charmed by his light-hearted portrayal of quirky Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. OH, and who can forget his endearing performance as oddball-loner Sam in Benny & Joon? (Depp–If you ever read this, know that I may be your number one fan! Just sayin’. SO, thank you!)

Anyway, back to earth. In the interview with Vanity Fair, Depp talks about meeting Angelina Jolie for the first time on the set of their upcoming movie, The Tourist; the executives at Disney who didn’t like his interpretation of Caption Sparrow; and how he almost became a musician instead of an actor.

Here are some excerpts from the interview:

On Meeting Angelina Jolie for the first time on the set of The Tourist:

“Meeting her and getting to know her was a real pleasant surprise. You don’t know what she might be like—if she has any sense of humor at all. I was so pleased to find that she is incredibly normal, and has a wonderfully kind of dark, perverse sense of humor.”

On Disney executives not liking his portrayal of Captain Sparrow:

“They couldn’t stand him. They just couldn’t stand him. I think it was Michael Eisner, the head of Disney at the time, who was quoted as saying, ‘He’s ruining the movie.’ Upper-echelon Disney-ites, going, What’s wrong with him? Is he, you know, like some kind of weird simpleton? Is he drunk? By the way, is he gay?… And so I actually told this woman who was the Disney-ite… ‘But didn’t you know that all my characters are gay?’ Which really made her nervous.”

On ALMOST becoming a musician:

“Going into acting was an odd deviation from a particular road that I was on in my late teens, early 20s, because I had no desire, no interest, really, in it at all. I was a musician and I was a guitarist, and that’s what I wanted to do.”

I am sure Johnny you would make a fine musician as well, but thank God you picked the road that eventually lead us all to the world which includes your interpretation of Captain Jack Sparrow!
