John Mayer Says He Was Humiliated By Taylor Swift’s “Dear John” Song

Taylor Swift and John Mayer dated eons ago and broke up. Taylor then wrote a “Dear John” song for her “Speak Now” album about a relationship gone sour, without ever confirming that the song was about Mayer. Two years later, Mayer has spoken up and is not a happy camper about that song. To say the least.

In case you don’t know the lyrics, they go something like this….”Dear John, I see it all, now it was wrong / Don’t you think 19 is too young to be played by your dark twisted games, when I loved you so?”
In a new Rolling Stone interview, Mayer calls the Swift tune “cheap songwriting” and say it made him feel terrible. And he wants us to know that he did not deserve any of it. The song came out a little after Mayer went on a two-year hiatus following his controversial interviews with Rolling Stone and Playboy.

“I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I’d already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you’ve ever been, someone kicked you even lower?” John concludes the interview with admitting that Swift is the biggest thing in music now. But says, “I think it’s abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, ‘Wait till he gets a load of this!’ That’s bullshit.”

John Mayer Cancels Shows, Postpones Album Release Due To Mass Found In Throat

John Mayer has canceled his upcoming appearances with Tony Bennett in Los Angeles and at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas next weekend, revealing today that he has a granuloma, an inflamed nodule or tumor-like mass of tissue, near his vocal cords.

Mayer announced today, “I know there were people depending on me to be there and I’m sorry that I can’t be on those stages.”

“After several months of going week to week monitoring and hoping to correct the condition, I am forced to cancel my upcoming singing engagements due to something next to my vocal cords called a granuloma.”

As if this news was not bad enough, Mayer also wrote of his upcoming album, “Born and Raised is complete as far as music recording, song selection, and in some cases mixing, but because of this condition I couldn’t finish singing on several of the tracks. This means the record will be released next year instead of this fall or winter.”

Despite the sad news all around for Mayer fans, the singer is trying to look for the rainbow and the light at the end of this dark tunnel. “This is a temporary setback, though I’m not sure how long or short a period of time it will be,” he wrote. “I’ve got the best doctors in the country looking after me and I will be singing and touring again as soon as I get the all clear. Until then I’ll be spending time writing and composing more music and kicking an empty soup can around the West Village.

“I’m looking forward to seeing you again soon. Until then take good care.”
