Adam Lambert & Queen Team Up: Lambert To Front Iconic Band

Adam Lambert got himself a well-deserved gig of a lifetime. He will be the front man for Queen on tour this summer, a development which makes sense after the Grammy-nominated singer performed with the iconic band during the 2009 American Idol finale.

“The intention is to pay tribute to [the band’s late singer Freddie Mercury] and the band by singing some f*cking great songs,” Lambert told Great Britain’s The Daily Star. “It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of.” Continue reading

Adam Lambert: Being Gay Is A Tough Life, It’s Not A Choice

Adam Lambert is featured in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly where he opens up about his much anticipated sophomore album, his current sense of fashion, and how his music has evolved. He also speaks candidly about being gay.

On being gay:
“I mean, it’s a tough life. And contrary to popular belief, it’s not a f—ing choice.”
On his current fashion sense:
“I’ve kind of started to tone it down in the respect that [my look] is not as flashy now. It’s still different and avant-garde, but it’s a bit more chic; a bit more designer as opposed to Vegas. I’d love to work on my own fashion line, accessory line, shoes or something, but obviously right now I’m focused on my music.”
On his new song “Outlaws of Love”
“Love is such a beautiful thing. When you’re lucky enough to find love it’s one of the greatest feelings in the world. And the particular challenge for gay people, and particularly gay men, from my perspective, is [that] monogamy and true love works. Because we are brought up in a society that tells us it’s wrong.”
On his next album, Trespass
“The style [on the new album] is a little bit evolved. I think the last album I was trying to update the style of the late ‘70s, early ‘80s with the glam rock and with rock music on a whole visually and aesthetically. I think this album is more in the direction of contemporary again. It’s fresh and it’s something people maybe haven’t heard before. Lyrically, it’s very honest and real. We’ve been trying to take great songs and then as far as the production and the sonic nature of them, we try to give them a funk sensibility. I think it’s a really cool new sound.”

Adam Lambert Reflects On The Past, Talks About Future Direction Of His Music

Adam Lambert channels Elvis Presley in the latest issue of Out, posing as The King did once for Andy Warhol.

During the accompanying interview, Lambert repeatedly talks about the lessons he learned about portraying the right impression to “the masses.” Specifically calling out his Details spread and kissing his keyboard player during the American Music Awards, Lambert says: “The AMA thing was maybe a little too much, too soon, and the photo shoot for Details, although very beautiful, maybe it wasn’t the right timing,” he admits. As for the future, Lambert says, “Now that I have established who I am and I’ve gotten it out of my system, what’s really important – without denying or downplaying my pride as a gay man – is the music.”
About his sophomore album which will be released next year, Lambert tells his fans to expect personal songs and says he has a lot more control on how it will be recorded. “This is definitely the album that I want to make. I’m getting time with it, I’m able to say, ‘I want to re-record that vocal,’ or ‘Let’s bring this song to another producer or a different beat put on it’. So I’m getting to immerse myself in the process. I feel like I’m getting to take the necessary time.”

Adam Levine Slams American Idol For “Masking” Gay Contestants

The Voice judge and Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine can’t stand some things about his competition American Idol and in an interview with gay magazine Out, Levine, who has a gay brother, slammed AI for making its contestants allegedly “mask” their sexuality.

“What’s always pissed me off about ‘Idol’ is wanting to mask that, for that to go unspoken,” he said. “C’mon. You can’t be publicly gay? At this point? On a singing competition? Give me a break. You can’t hide basic components of these people’s lives. The fact that ‘The Voice’ didn’t have any qualms about being completely about it is a great thing.”

The Voice
featured several gay contestants on the show whereas gay contestants on Idol had to wait until after the competition to come out with their sexuality. Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, for example, admitted he was forced by FOX to keep his sexuality under wraps while filming season 8.

“It was hard for me because I wasn’t able to talk,” Lambert said. “So I was sitting there, going, I can’t really put in my two cents. It felt out of control, and feeling out of control is scary.”

Levine said: “I can single-handedly dispel any ideas that sexuality is acquired. Trust me, you’re born with it. My brother is gay, and we knew when he was two. We all knew.”

And The Winner Of The Top Earning American Idol Star Is….

Forbes has released its annual list of the top earning American Idol stars for the past year, and the list will surprise you.

Of course, Carrie Underwood tops the list — but the shocker is that my fave Glambert comes in at number 2, above Kelly Clarkson.

In fact, Kelly Clarkson gets beat out by even Jordin Sparks and Fantasia Barrino… Then again, this list only covers May 2010-May 2011.

What you will notice missing from the list are the last three winners of the show, Lee DeWyze, Kris Allen and Scott McCreery, although, granted, McCreery obviously gets a pass since he just won the Idol crown.

Here are the top 10 earners:
1. Carrie Underwood – $20 million

2. (tie) Adam Lambert and Chris Daughtry – $6 million. Lambert’s first album, For Your Entertainment, sold 821,000 copies domestically and was certified gold or platinum in six other countries. He also had a 116-date Glam Nation Tour which proved a rare success in 2010′s troubled concert industry.
4. Fantasia Barrino – $4 million–Fantasia’s reality show Fantasia For Real, was VH1′s biggest hit of 2010, and her comeback album Back To Me, was her highest-charting album to date.
5. Jordin Sparks – $3 million
6. Kelly Clarkson – $2.5 million
7. Jennifer Hudson – $2 million
8. Kellie Pickler – $1.8 million
9. Clay Aiken – $1.5 million
10. (tie) Katharine McPhee, David Archuleta, David Cook – $1 million. McPhee made the list due to her upcoming NBC series Smash and a new label deal with Columbia Records in conjunction with that show.
