The current season of Big Brother has stirred up a huge controversy as fans debate whether CBS should evict several contestants who have uttered racist, homophobic, and sexist remarks which have been captured on the show’s 24-hour lives feeds.

The contestants in the hot seat are Aaryn Gries, GinaMarie Zimmerman, and Spencer Clawson. Two of them have already been fired by their real life job/agent (GinaMarie and Aaryn). Another, Spencer, has been scolded by his boss. Of course none of the contestants yet know of their fate outside of the BB house since they have no contact with anyone beyond the gates of their current residence.

CBS has yet to comment on the situation although they did finally air Aaryn’s comments on the prime time show. But host Julie Chen has finally spoken out about the comments Aaryn made in particular because hers included slurs against the Asian community.

While visiting The Talk on Monday, the Big Brother host admitted, “I have to be honest, it stung!” She added, “Those things, in my opinion … it felt mean-spirited. It felt ugly and it felt mean.”

“When I first found out that Aaryn, who is a 22-year-old girl, made anti-gay, anti-black and anti-Asian comments, I have to be honest, the Asian ones hit me the most. It stung. I took it personally,” Julie elaborated. “I’m a human being. The really sad part, it took me back to the ’70s when I was growing up in Queens and I was 7-years-old getting bullied, being called a chink. I thought, ‘Wow, I haven’t heard comments like that [in years].’ The year is 2013. I felt ignorant, there are still people in the country who feel and act that way? Yes there [are]. It made me sad. She’s 22 and she’s college educated.”

Gries was filmed making comments about fellow contestant Helen Kim who is Asian, saying she should “go make rice.” She also said, “I probably look like a squinty Asian right now.” Aaryn also made fun of Asian nail salon workers, saying in an accident, “Why you no have boyfriend? It’s because you don’t want long nail!”
