“American Idol” airs an all new episode tonight March 27, 2013 featuring our Top 8 Idols singing for your votes.
On tonight’s show the Top 8 who are Janelle Arthur, Candice Glover, Lazaro Arbos, Kree Harrison, Amber Holcomb, Angie Miller, Burnell Taylor and Devin Velez will each perform one song from the show’s theme of Detroit: The Music of Motor City.

Candice Glover

Song: ”I Heard It Through The Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye
Judges’ Comments: Keith Urban said he loved that Candice really “lifted it up” at the right times during the song. He added she has a “great way of controlling” her voice. This was her best performance said Keith. Nicki Minaj says Candice did a great job . Randy Jackson said Candice has gained a lot of confidence over the run of the show and added tonight’s performance was “effortless” and “crazy good.” Mariah Carey says Candice “epitomizes what this competition is about”.
Lazaro Arbos

Song: ”For Once In My Life” by Stevie Wonder
Judges’ comments: Randy says he’s not sure that Lazaro has since last week’s mess “completely redeemed himself” but it was “far better than last week.” Mariah agreed with Randy about “some of the pitch issues” but said the song choice was “more in his sweet spot.” Keith also thinks Lazaro did better this week. He added though that Lazaro was off “rhythmically” though his vocals were good. Nicki agrees that Lazaro is back and that he gave her “everything she needed and wanted”.
Janelle Arthur

Song: ”You Keep Me Hangin’ On” by The Supremes
Judges’ Comments: Mariah says this was “Janelle at her finest.” Keith called the performance “beautiful”. He loved the arrangement because it “brought out the angst in the lyric that he’s never heard before.” Nicki said Janelle always shines when she has her guitar with her. She pointed out that Janelle seemed a little distracted tonight. Randy absolutely loved the “incredible” performance.
Devin Velez

Judges’ comments: Keith says some songs are difficult to sing while you have to act like you have performed them forever but felt Devin was really relaxing into the song at certain times. Nicki says it was amazing and has loved every single choice he’s made. Randy said Devin is back tonight and it was one of Devin’s best performances in weeks. Mariah loved it.
Burnell Taylor

Judges’ Comments: Nicki said she was reminded why she fell in love with his voice. Randy called the performance fantastic. Mariah said that the original is one of her favorite songs ever and that Burnell did not disappoint. Keith said ‘Where’s Ron Burgundy (of Anchorman–the flute player looks like him!) when you need him?” He added Burnell did a great job and that the song was right in his wheelhouse.
Angelia Miller

Judges’ Comments: Randy thought it was strange because it was the first time he’s seen her have such a pitchy performance. Mariah said she would have liked to see her play piano on this one or performing “I’ll Be There”. She could have hit a home run with that one. She did not think this was a great song choice for her. Although Keith thinks Angie has undeniable talent, he agrees with Randy about hearing pitch problems. He said the melody was pulling her down while her energy level was too high. Nicki agrees with Keith that her talent is undeniable but disagrees about the melody. She says that she thinks Angie tried to come out and “show a different side of Angie that didn’t need to be shown” because she’s already an amazing artist.
Amber Holcomb

Judges’ Comments: Mariah called it “a tour de force.” She loved it and it was beautiful. Keith agrees that it was a tour de force. Said it was a good song choice which she sang beautifully. Nicki thinks when God created Amber’s vocal cords he was showing off. Randy calls it the best vocal of the night–by far.
Kree Harrison

Judges’ Comments: Randy says “like, oh my God.” Mariah liked it. Keith says Kree’s voice is “inherently country” and he loves that. Nicki points out that Kree did two Queen songs of Madonna and Aretha and that means she’s amazing.
