Washington Redskins’ RGIII Inspires Cancer Patient To Find Cure

CelebMagnet readers know that I am a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. On this Thanksgiving day, I am looking very forward to the match up between my Boys and their rivals, the Washington Redskins — a game that has huge playoff implications.

Now, you would not expect that on this day of all days I would be singing accolades of the quarterback of the archrival team. But when it comes to Robert Griffin III, I just can’t help myself.

I am not really talking about football here. You see, this will actually be the first time I will watch the man, the myth, the rookie in action since he made his NFL debut earlier this season. I don’t know much about the player on the field except that he threw for 4 TDs last week, ran for almost 90 yards, and is the next Joe Montana in the making. That does not matter on this day of Thanksgiving. What matters is what I know of the man off of the field and that’s what merits a write up here.

There was a poignant story posted on Facebook a few weeks ago. A 50-year-old orthodontist with terminal prostate cancer expressed on Facebook on October 28th that he wanted to meet RGIII as his last dying wish (sort of his own version of Make A Wish.) Within a few mere hours of that Facebook wish being posted, the story made its way to the Redskins quarterback and the phone rang in the hospital room of the patient, Dr. Steven Afsahi. It was no other than RGIII himself who called, brightening up a downtrodden man he’s never met.

It appears that alerted by FB friends, RGIII took time out of his incredibly busy schedule and picked up the phone to talk to Dr. Afsahi, promising to take even more time to visit him in person once the Redskins season is over.

Now, that may not sound like much to the average Joe. But to a die-hard football and Skins fan in particular, it made all the difference in the world to Dr. Afsahi. That simple phone call, coupled with a promise of a future visit, was all this one patient needed to fight his cancer even harder. Inspired by the kindness of an admired stranger, this patient now has all the hope in the world that he can beat this dreaded disease. And he can. But he needs your help and the RGIIIs of the world to help spread the need for research.

Here is how you can help: You can read about this patient’s story and medical history on www.ICuredCancer.com. If you know of any specialists or doctors working on cancer research, specifically advanced prostate cancer, please share his website (www.ICuredCancer.com) with them — perhaps we can have a miracle and save Afsahi’s life. You can also help by promoting that website as your Facebook status or Tweeting this story on CelebMagnet far and wide. Reddit it! StumbleUpon it. You know the social media drill: Get the word out. Let’s find a cure for Afsahi and anyone suffering from advanced prostate cancer.
