The Voice live results October 8, 2012

The Voice airs a brand new episode tonight October 8, 2012 as the competition starts its Battle Round Part 1. Tonight, the singers start the duet battles and the coaches get to decide who stays and who goes home.

In addition, for the first time ever on The Voice, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton have a chance to steal other coaches’ artists. How the new steal twist works is that it will allow each coach to be able to steal two artists from any other coaches’ team once the contestants have been eliminated from that respective coach’s line-up.

Look below for a live results blog and recap of The Voice tonight. Find out who is eliminated off of the show tonight and goes home and which coach steals which artist. The battle rounds narrow the field of contestants from 64 artists to the top 40.

With tonight’s results, remember the twist: Each artist who loses a battle is up for a steal. Each coach can steal up to two contestants. If two coaches want a steal the same ‘eliminated’ contestant, the power switches back to the artist who then selects whose team they’ll move to.

TEAM BLAKE ROUND ONE

First duel is between Casey Meussiggman and Terry McDermott. Blake has brought in Michael Bublé to help mentor his artists. The guys will be singing ‘Carry On My Wayward Son’ by Kansas. I love that song – I am old school! Michael says Casey should change his technique and approach it like a rock song rather than a country ballad. Terry is a rocker so he is having less difficulties with this particular song.

It’s battle time. Christina said it was a great battle and that both of them “really brought it”.  Cee Lo said he liked Terry’s confidence and “uber rock cool”. He also liked Casey’s control and assertiveness with his voice. Adam said it is “so cool” and is “pissed” because he wanted Terry on his team. Blake applauds Casey for never backing down. He says he raltes more to country artists, so Blake picks Terry! Casey is eliminated and is going home.

TEAM ADAM

The first duel on Team Adam is between Colin McLoughlin and Bryan Keith. Adam has the help of Mary J Blige. Colin and Bryan will perform Sublime’s ‘Santeria’. Mary J finds Colin  amazing, but does say that he should learn how to convey emotion in his voice. Bryan seems to do well but does have trouble discovering some of the elongated notes in the song. And the battle is on!

Blake said the duel was “a lot of fun”. He would chose Colin since he had no pitch problems. Christina says they both did well. She did mention that Colin rushed the tempo and Bryan had more “swag”, so, she’d go with Bryan. Cee Lo loved Colin’s energy but thinks Bryan is more of a natural so he’d pick Bryan. It’s Adam’s turn who likes that they both had good energy. He goes with the person who interpreted the song the way Adam wanted and that person is Bryan who wins! Adam eliminates Colin. But wait!! It’s not the end of the road for Colin after all! Blake and Cee Lo try to steal him and Colin chooses Blake!

TEAM CEE LO ROUND ONE

The first duel on Team Cee Lo is between JR Aquino and Diego Val. Cee Lo has enlisted Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 for help. Remember, JR is one of the most subscribed musicians on YouTube with 45 million hits under his belt! The two will sing Rick Springfield’s ‘Jessie’s Girl’. Diego admits, “I’m Peruvian, Bro” and says he’s never heard the song before! JR gets a lot of praise and Diego looks lost.

In rehearsals for the live show, Diego is struggling with the language barrier. JR on the other hand is doing great. Before the dueal, JR faked a friendly handshake! Nice move, NOT!

After the duel, Adam says both artists were “really battling it out.” He added that Diego surprised him and “killed it!” Blake calls them both great pop singers but that he’d chose JR. Christina agrees that JR was stronger. Cee Lo choses Diego and JR is eliminated unless someone steals him. Too bad for JR, no one grabs him and he is going home.

TEAM CHRISTINA

The first duel for Team Christina is between De’Borah and Nelly’s Echo. They will sing The Police’s ‘Message in a Bottle’. Billy Joe Armstrong who is helping Christina thinks this song choice is tailor made for Nelly. De’Borah actually does not even know the song but adapts quickly.

During rehearsal, Nelly is all over the place with his notes trying to show off his range. De’Borah sounds much cleaner.

After the duel, Cee Lo says he appreciates the “culture and heritage” in Nelly’s Echo. But he admits that he was blown away by De’Borah as the clear winner of the battle. Adam thinks Nelly’s Echo struggled somewhat with the higher notes. Blake is shocked at the way De’Borah “ramped up” the entire performance and he picks her as the winner. Christina thought De’Borah sounded like Lauren Hill. Christina chooses De’Borah as the winner letting go of Nelly’s Echo. No one steals Nelly’s Echo so Nelly’s Echo is headed home.

TEAM BLAKE ROUND TWO

2Steel Girls and Gracia Harrison are Blake’s second duel. They will be singing ‘Sin Wagon’ by The Dixie Chicks. Garcia was awesome in rehearsals and she threw in some yodeling. 2Steel Girls struggled a bit to turn on their country twang.

After the duel. Christina says they were entertaining but thought Gracia had a little more playfulness with her attitude, giving her the edge. Cee Lo found the duel evenly matched, but said he would pick 2Steel Girls. Adam calls them both “phenomenal” and said Blake would do great with either.Blake chooses Garcia and lets go of 2Steel Girls.

TEAM CE LO ROUND TWO

The last duel of the night is between Trevin Hunte and Amanda Brown who will sing Mariah Carey’s ‘Vision of Love’. Rob Thomas tells Trevin that he needs more confidence because he’s his own worst enemy. Cee Lo says he’s upset with himself for having put the two of them up against each other since they’re both so amazing and he can only keep one.

The duo got a standing ovation from the audience AND all four coaches. Adam says he will steal whoever Cee Lo does not keep. Blake can’t think of one negative thing to say. He jokes that he’s attracted to them both and that Trevin is “sexy”. Christina says this was  the best performance they’ve had in the battle rounds so far. Cee Lo keeps Trevin! Amanda is up for grabs! All three eligible coaches immediately press their steal buttons. Amanda says she wants to go “out of the box” with who she works with so she chooses Adam as he new coach!
