Modern Family started the night at the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards by cleaining house. As it should have. And they ended the night just as strongly by winning the Outstanding Comedy Series. As we expected.
Julie Bowen won the first award of the night, making it the second year in a row that the 42-year-old actress has snagged the title of Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. Bowen beat out Sofia Vergara, Mayim Balik, Merritt Wever, Kristen Wiig, and the late Kathryn Joosten.
Bowen said in her acceptance speech: “I am just so lucky to work with a cast as lucky and as talented as we have. Sofia, I know you’re younger than me, but I want to be you when I grow up.”
Bowen’s costar Eric Stonestreet also struck gold by winning in the Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series category.
