Marie Claire pulled a fast one on its South African audience by featuring a fake Kate Middleton on its August cover.

What you see here is not Kate in her entirety but merely her face morphed on to the body of some other woman. Not cool, heh?

In a pretty pathetic attempt to explain this facade, Marie Claire’s Editor Aspasia Karrass tells the UK’s Telegraph:

“We were so inspired by her fairy tale wedding and her life as a modern-day princess, which is why we elected Kate Middleton as our cover star for the August issue. The cover is actually a hyper-real illustration of Kate, meant to be a fan art tribute to fashion’s new royal icon.”

And that’s not where the mag drew the line. The cover also claims that Middleton “wears SA’s best local designers*” but the fine print reads: “*Of course she doesn’t. But she should.”
Lame.
