Katy Perry was awarded the 2012 Billboard Music Spotlight Award for scoring five No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 from her album “Teenage Dream”. Lisa Marie Presley did the presentation which is fitting since Lisa’s former husband, Michael Jackson, is the only other artist to pull off that accomplishment.

Perry said, “This is cool! They told me the only other person who’s received this award is Michael Jackson, so I feel incredibly honoured to be in the same category – although I don’t compare at all!”

Perry attended the 2012 Billboard Music Awards accompanied by her 91-year-old grandmother. The singer performed her new song “Wide Awake” during the ceremony, a song written for her upcoming 3D documentary movie. The song seems to signify feelings related to her recent divorce from comedian Russell Brand. After the awards ceremony, Katy tweeted, “Kittens! My new single WIDE AWAKE, the final chapter of Teenage Dream, listen and learn the lyrics #WIDEAWAKE.”

And the lyrics go: “I’m wide awake. I was in the dark, I was falling hard with an open heart. How did I read the stars so wrong.” The song continues, “I was dreaming for so long. I wish I knew then what I know now. I wouldn’t dive in, I wouldn’t bow down.”

The song ends in a cheery note. “Not losing any sleep,” she says. “I picked up every piece and landed on my feet.”

“Need nothing to complete myself. I am born again, outta the lion’s den. I don’t have to pretend. The story’s over now, the end.”
