Dancing with the Stars‘ pro dancer Derek Houghsustained an injury to his back during rehearsals over the weekend. He Tweeted last night: “Right on schedule. I threw my back out this morning. As painful as it is, I look at it as good luck.”
His dancing partner, Maria Menounos told Extra host Mario Lopez Monday that she’s worried about Hough’s ability to perform in tonight’s semi-finals.
About whether or not Derek could perform tonight, Maria responded: “I don’t know.” She then added: “I’m getting updates as of now that he’s in a lot of pain and is going to wear a back brace. He couldn’t shift it at all… I’m going to pray for the best.”
Maria also asked her Twitter followers to say a little prayer for her partner. “Everyone say a prayer for my #dwts partner @derekhough….he injured himself today.hopin he’s ok in am to dance:).”
Earlier today, Maria tweeted this picture of a bandaged Derek with the caption, “So nervous about tonight. Derek is in rough shape…getting him fixed up as I tweet.”If Derek is not able to dance tonight, ABC might allow an alternate to step in his shoes. But for those of you keeping tabs, Derek is not new to dancing with injuries. He hurt his neck right before the semi-finals in 2010. But he and then-partner Nicole Scherzinger not only danced in the semis, they went on to win the mirrorball trophy that year despite the last-minute injury. So, that’s why Derek sees this injury as “good luck!”
