Colton Dixon blames his shocking elimination off of American Idol On April 19, 2012 on straying too far from who he is.
“The head is still high,” Colton Dixon told THR minutes after he was voted off of American Idol. “I strayed too far from who I was,” Colton sighed, adding, “I knew I was going to be in the bottom three … I turned off a lot of my audience by choosing Lady Gaga.”
If you were shocked by Colton’s untimely elimination, you were not alone. American Idol winner Carrie Underwood was also beside herself about the news. She took to Twitter to say, “Colton gone on Idol tonight?!?! What?!?! Really thought I’d see him in the finale…’tis a sad night, indeed.”
Underwood then had some encouraging words for the singer: “@CDixonAI11 Keep your head up! You are SO amazingly talented! God has blessed you so much and will continue to do so!”
