Katharine McPhee On Why ‘Smash’ Will Appeal To Both Sexes

NBC’s new series, Smash, debuts tonight, starring Katharine McPhee.  The show follows Broadway hopefuls Karen (McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty) as they audition for the lead in a Marilyn Monroe-themed musical.

Katharine is no stranger to the audition process since she was the 2006 runner-up on American Idol. She is now busy promoting her new show and can be seen in the March issue of GQ magazine. In the interview, Katharine explains why Smashwill be enjoyed by both sexes:

“I can understand why guys wouldn’t be into Glee. You know, that’s a pretty heavy musical show. That show does, like, six songs in an episode. We’ll do, at most, three.”

McPhee also understands her special appeal to the male audience: “What if I tell your readers that in episode five I take off all my clothes? I mean…no. But can’t we just say that?”
