After the suicide of one of her Little Monsters, 14-year-old Jamey Rodemeyer, Lady Gaga vowed to do her part to end bullying.

Towards that end, she’s established the Born This Way Foundation with her mother, Cynthia Germonotta, an organization which “will focus on youth empowerment and equality by addressing issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development,” according to a statement on her Web site.

Gaga continues that, with the help of her mother, they “hope to establish a standard of bravery and kindness, as well as a community worldwide that protects and nurtures others in the face of bullying and abandonment.”

After Rodemeyer’s suicide which was reported by his parents to be caused by constant bullying over his sexuality, Gaga Tweeted, “The past days I’ve spent reflecting, crying, and yelling. I have so much anger. It is hard to feel love when cruelty takes someone’s life.”
