Remember those bad-ass Nike Air Mag sneakers that laced themselves in Back to the Future II? How cool were they? Well, now you can have your very own pair — if you have about $37,500 laying around.

Nike is releasing 1,500 pairs of the “2011 Nike Mag” sneaker, modeled after the pair from the 1989 movie, to be auctioned to raise funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s disease research. The first pair were sold last night and one lucky anonymous bidder paid $37,500 for them. A big win for Parkinson’s research!

Last night’s auction was co-hosted by Community star Joel McHale and held at the Montalban Theater in Los Angeles. The winner also got him/herself a plutonium case to store the prized shoes.

Fox was on Late Show With David Letterman Thursday night to promote the fundraising shoe.

“This brings together three populations of major Joneses,” Fox told Letterman, “the sneakerheads, the Back to the Future people, who, believe me, are out of their minds, in a good way! Thank God for them. And the people in the Parkinson’s community who have an interest in research.”

Fox also gave the amazing news that Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, will match up to $50 million of the proceeds raised dollar for dollar.
