I won’t lie – I was a bit skeptical about this coming week’s Grey’s Anatomy: The Musical Event. Well, that is, until I heard Sara Ramirez sing live a few days ago (watch that performance here). Any worries I had were turned into utter ease and now, I can’t wait to watch the episode.
Ramirez recently said Grey’s fans will be shocked to see how well some of the cast members can sing! She said of all the cast, Chandra Wilson who plays Miranda Bailey impressed her the most but that the whole cast performed great. Ramirez herself, who plays Callie Torres on Grey’s, also played the original Lady of the Lake in the 2005 Broadway musical Spamalot, for which she won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.
On this next special episode, we find a seriously injured Callie as the result of the car crash we witnessed at the end of last Thursday’s episode. As the team of Seattle Grace’s best works on Callie, Callie goes through an out-of-body experience as her life hangs in the balance. We are then allowed to enter her subconscious which seems to communicate solely through music.
The musical episode of Grey’s Anatomy will be airing Thursday, March 31. On the same day, the soundtrack for the episode will be released in stores and on iTunes.
