Lady Gaga wears a meat bikini on cover of Vogue Japan, angers PETA

We love Lady Gaga. We dig her sound. We admire her originality. We envy her sass. But her latest cover on Vogue Hommes Japan –on which she is seen wearing nothing but pieces of raw meat – may have upset some animal rights’ activists.

The Vogue cover certainly flies in the face of the campaign PETA recently launched with Pamela Anderson so obviously PETA had to respond via an official statement: “Oh, Lady Gaga’s job is to do outlandish things, and this certainly qualifies as outlandish because meat is something you want to avoid putting on or in your body,” PETA’s President, Ingrid Newkirk, told the NY Daily News.

“No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal. Meat represents bloody violence and suffering, so if that’s the look they were going for—they achieved it.”

This is the same photoshoot that featured Gaga’s alter ego Jo Calderone. Calderone told Vogue: “I met her at a shoot [photographer] Nick Knight was doing. She’s f—in beautiful, and funny, and interesting. I was a little nervous for Nick to start shooting. [Gaga] said, ‘Don’t be baby, you were born this way.’ I took her out after. The rest is private ;)”
