Movie Ticket Prices To Top $20 Each

In what planet is a matinee or any other movie for that matter worth $16? SIXTEEN DOLLARS! On planet Hollywood I guess since that is the City where I just shelved out $16 to see a movie mid afternoon today. Outrageous? Yes. Rare, isolated occurrence? Not any longer.

Don’t think just because you don’t live in Hollywood that you will be shielded from such highway robbery prices. The Wall Street Journal reports that for the first time, a major Hollywood film, Shrek 4, will cost you $20 per person at the box office, as movie-theater owners test the public’s willingness to pony up extra cash to see a movie. I think The Wall Street Journal is even a bit late in its reporting. Disney’s El Capitan Theater in Hollywood was charging $25 for Alice in Wonderland earlier this year, which is why I opted to see the movie elsewhere. But I guess as long as we, the public viewers, are willing to pay the crazy prices, the movie-theater owners will continue to gouge us. I’d love to know: At what price would you skip the movie theater all together and opt for staying in and watching a DVD?
