Anderson Cooper went blind for 36 hours last week. Can you imagine? Thankfully, Cooper’s vision  returned after more than a few scary hours and he gave the details on what exactly happened on his daytime talk show.

Cooper was in Portugal on a 60 Minutes assignment. “I am in this beautiful coastal area shooting this story for 60 Minutes involving the water … I don’t want to go into details [on] what the story was,” Cooper said.

“But I am on the water for 2 hours shooting this story and it’s an overcast day. I wake up in the middle of the night, and it feels like my eyes are on fire.

“My eyeballs! And I think, ‘Oh, maybe I have sand in my eyes or something.’ I douse my eyes with water. Anyway, it turns out I have sunburned my eyeballs.” OUCH! I always heard that was possible, but never have known anyone who actually suffered from it.

Anderson added, “And I go blind. I went blind for 36 hours.”

Anderson shared this photo of himself leaving the hospital and wearing an eye patch. He may have lost his sight temporarily, but Cooper’s sense of humor never left his side: “That’s my new Match.com profile picture, by the way,” Anderson quipped.

“I think that’s going to really work for me.”
