The Amazing Race premiered its 20th season Sunday, February 19, 2012. Hosted by Phil Keoghan, the ‘Tears of A Clown’ episode featured 11 Teams departing from Santa Barbara, CA for Santa Barbara, Argentina.

Below is a full recap of the show with elimination results of who was the first couple to go home.

The show starts with Phil introducing the teams. The first leg of the race starts at Bridlewood Winery, Santa Barbara where the teams will have to find their first clue among 100 balloons. Elliott and Andrew are the first team to depart from LAX. The last team to depart are Misa and Maiya.

Upon arrival in Argentina, the teams must drive themselves to Santa Barbara for their next clue. Big Brother‘s Brendon Villegas & Rachel Reilly are on the first team to arrive in the country along with Art & JJ, Nary & Jamie, Vanessa & Ralph, Elliott & Andrew and Rachel & Dave.

The first challenge is “X Marks The Spot.” What this means for each team is that one member has to jump 10,000 feet from a plane while the other team member will drive to the landing spot. JJ lands first, Rachel R. lands second. The other Rachel lands third. At that time, the remaining teams land in Argentina and head over to the challenge.
The second challenge is for the teams to make 120 Empandas, the national dish of Argentina. Rachel R. figures out that the are two different techniques to make this food, one for the cheese and one for the meat.

Misa is having a panic attack before jumping and Maiya is on the ground but made a wrong move while heading to the drop point and got her car stuck in sand. Misa finally gets her courage up and jumps and Maiya found some men to help get her car moving.

The first team to finish the Empanadas is Rachel & Dave and they are also the first team to arrive at the first pit stop of the season. They win an express pass. Brendon & Rachel R. arrive second. Art & JJ are team number three. Mary & Jamie arrive fourth, Vanessa & Ralph are fifth, Elliot & Andrew are sixth, Kerri & Stacy are seventh, David & Cherie are eighth, Mark & Bopper are ninth.

Misa & Maiya were about to arrive tenth and avoid elimination but they managed to mix things up just enough so that Joel & Danny to get in before them.

ELIMINATED: Misa & Maiya home.
