Cory Monteith Opens Up About His Past: “I’m No Finn Hudson”

Cory Monteith plays an innocent, lovable, sweet character on Glee, but Monteith admits that his past in real life is a far cry from his TV persona.

Monteith opened up to PARADE MAGAZINE: “I’m not Finn Hudson. I burned a lot of bridges, I was out of control. I’m lucky to be alive.”

In the article, the 29-year old actor gave much detail about his “serious” drug problem which involved “anything and everything, as much as possible.”

It all started when his parents got divorced when he was 7. He started skipping school, getting drunk and smoking pot at the age of 13. Monteith finally dropped out when 16, after attending 12 different schools. At 19, things had gotten so bad, his mother and friends organized an intervention.

“That’s when I first went to rehab,” but like others like him, his first stint at rehab was not enough to change his habits permanently. He had to hit rock bottom first to start to change, an experience he calls “the crystallizing event.”

“I stole a significant amount of money from a family member,” he admits. “I knew I was going to get caught, but I was so desperate I didn’t care. It was a cry for help. I was confronted and I said, ‘Yeah, it was me.’ It was the first honorable, truthful thing that had come out of my mouth in years.”

The family member told Monteith to clean up his act or he would be reported to the police. So, with those two options facing him, he moved in with a friend and was able to kick his drug habit. He then started a job a roofer and started acting.

“I don’t want kids to think it’s okay to drop out of school and get high, and they’ll be famous actors, too. But for those people who might give up: Get real about what you want and go after it. If I can, anyone can.”

Closer Sixth Season DVD Personal Life

Kyra Sedgwick‘s character, Brenda, in The Closer is no ordinary woman. Yet even this super woman still struggles to juggle the needs of her work and personal lives in an never ending battle that all of us in real life can relate to.

It’s very difficult at times to distinguish between the ever-more–blurry lines of our work and personal lives and often one bleeds into the other. After all, we spend at least forty hours a week in a place away from home so it is hard to leave what happens at work there when we come home.

How do you balance your work life and personal life? What keeps you balanced?

VIDEO: Missy Impresses The Judges & Wadi Gets Hit On By Debbie Reynolds

So You Think You Can Dance Top 20 performed Wednesday June 22.

Below is the video of the sexy Cha Cha routine by Missy Morelli and Wadi Jones. It was choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereux and danced to Cannibal by Ke$ha. Before the dance, Missy said Wadi uses “ladies’ hair removal cream” on his chest hair. Wadi admitted it and said it made his nipples hurt. Wadi in turn made fun of the way Missy laughs.

About their performance, Nigel Lythgoe said Wadi was missing technique (no surprise there since Wadi has never danced the Cha Cha before). And then Nigel said if Wadi will be in the bottom 3 tomorrow, his “freestyle will be fantastic to watch.” Nigel told Missy she was spicy and hot and was very very good. Mary Murphy said the beginning of the dance was spectacular but agreed that Wadi was weak during the Cha Cha parts. She said Missy is the Cha Cha queen and she was very impressed by her. She compared the couple to a Dancing with the Stars pair–with Missy being the pro and Wadi the student. Guest judge Debbie Reynolds interrupted and said she would take Wadi home! She continued, “You can Cha Cha with Debbie anytime.” About the dance itself, she simply said “Muy Bueno.”
