The Bachelorette season opener (airing May 27, 2013) starring Desiree Hartsock tanked in ratings last night with a series-low of only 5.8 million viewers and a 1.9 rating in the all important adults 14-49 demo. That’s what ABC gets for pitting the premiere episode of its once-popular show against The Voice (which had 10.9 million viewers and a 3.1 demo rating in comparison)–not to mention airing the season kickoff during a holiday weekend when not as many turn to the boob tube for entertainment. Sad news to report on the Bachelor front.
The Bachelor season 16 runner-up Lindzi Cox (Ben Flajnik’s season) and the villain from Bachelorette Emily Maynard’s season, Kalon McMahon, have called it quits.
The couple who met and hooked up on last season’s Bachelor Pad, are no longer an item despite them seemingly going strong up until very recently.
Lindzi told Extra, “As of recently things have changed between Kalon and I. We cared about each other, but we’re in different places in our lives right now and it just isn’t our time.”
ABC has confirmed that its next “Bachelor” will be Sean Lowe.
Sean was third in line to win Emily Maynard’s heart but he lost out to Jef Holm on last season’s Bachelorette. The blonde businessman hails from Texas and had recently told people that despite getting his heart broken on the show, he believes in the show. “I’m an open-minded optimist, and I believe the process can work. If I found my wife, it would be worth it.”
ABC’s “The Bachelor” premieres in January.
