Michael Jackson Forever Tribute Rocks Out With Christina Aguilera And Jamie Foxx

The Michael Jackson Forever Tribute Concert kicked off Saturday to celebrate the life of the King of Pop.  Katherine, La Toya, Tito, Marlon and Jackie Jackson were in attendance as well as all three of Jackson’s children, Prince, Paris and Michael Joseph Jr. (Blanket).

Janet, Jermaine and Randy Jackson were absent because they were against holding the concert during the same time as Dr. Conrad Murray’s manslaughter trial.

Randy and Jermaine Tweeted: “While we wholeheartedly support the spirit of a tribute that honors our brother, we find it impossible to support an event that is due to take place during the criminal trial surrounding Michael’s death.”

The Black Eyed Peas dropped out last minute and Jennifer Hudson did not make it, but Ne-Yo, Jamie Foxx,  Leona Davis, Beyonce (via video), Christina Aguilera, and Cee Lo Green all performed. Fox sang MJ’s Billie Jean and Lady in My LifeLewis performed Stranger in Moscow with ballerinas dancing in the background. Beyonce sang I Wanna Be Where You Are, via video.

Aguilera belted Smile and Dirty Diana and Green gave a soulful rendition of I Can’t Help it and You Can’t Win.

Also performing were Smokey Robinson, Alien Ant Farm, Craig Davis, Gladys Knight, Pixie Lott, 3T (Jackson’s nephews), Yolanda Adams and Alexandra Burke who all sang some of MJ’s biggest hits. Foxx joined SLS and The Jacksons to perform Rock With You and Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough. Jackson’s children danced on stage during the show’s finale, Don’t Stop.

Jennifer Hudson Tweeted about her absence: “To my u.k. fans that were coming to the mj show in wales, I will no longer be attending due to major production issues. I would have thought they would have informed you all by now, so since they did not, I am. Thank u for your support.”

PHOTOS: Jermaine Jackson’s Book Signing

SPOTTED: Jermaine Jackson at Barnes & Noble at The Grove in Los Angeles, CA, September 21, 2011 for a book signing and fan meet and greet.

In his new book, You Are Not Alone: Michael, Through A Brother’s Eyes, Jermaine, Michael Jackson‘s older brother, offers a memoir, tracing his brother’s life starting from their shared childhood and extending through the Jackson 5 years, Michael’s phenomenal solo career, his loves, his suffering, and his tragic end. The book offers to be a no-holds-barred examination of the man, aimed at fostering a true and final understanding of who he was, why he was, and what shaped him.

Katy Perry Ties Michael Jackson’s Record Of #1 Hits

Who knew?!

Not Madonna, not Celine Dion, not Mariah Carey, not Elvis Presley, not Britney Spears, not even Justin Timberlake.

But Katy Perry and Michael Jackson now have an impressive accomplishment in common –they’re both the only musicians who have five # 1 songs from the same album.

Perry became the first woman, and the second artist since Jackson, in the 53-year history of the Billboard Hot 100, to send five songs from an album to No. 1, as soon as her latest single Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) shot to the top of the charts.

Teenage Dreams, California Gurls, Firework, and E.T. are the other number one songs from her 2010 album Teenage Dreams.

Strange as it sounds, Jackson’s iconic 1982 album Thriller which is the #1 best-selling album of all time was not the album that achieved the feat for the late artist. It was his 1987 follow-up Bad, with hits such as Man in the Mirror and Smooth Criminal.

Jackson enjoyed seven weeks at the top spot with his Bad songs, while Perry has so far occupied the top spot for a record 18 weeks.
Congrats Katy Perry, AKA, Mrs. Brand!

Christina Aguilera Will Perform At Michael Jackson Tribute Concert

Christina Aguilera has joined fellow The Voice judge Cee Lo Green, and other musical guests such as Leona Lewis, Craig Davis, Smokey Robinson and Alien Ant Farm as confirmed performers for the Michael Jackson Tribute Concert in Wales in October.

About this news, an executive for Global Live Events says, “This announcement is just the beginning, we have many more to announce.”

Members of the Jackson family will participate at the October 8 concert in Cardiff and his mother, Katherine, is the official host for the event.

SPOTTED: Orianthi Live In Concert (Photos)

You know 26-year old Australian musician, song-writer and bad ass guitarist Orianthi best for being Michael Jackson‘s lead guitarist for his ill-fated This Is It concert tour and for appearing in the movie with the same name. But she’s also played with some other big names in the music business including Carrie Underwood and Carlos Santana and has her own solo album.

Orianthi released her major label record in October 2009. The album produced the worldwide hit According to You, which reached number 2 on US radio airplay and charted to number eight in Australia, three in Japan, and achieved platinum status in the US and Australia. In 2009 Orianthi was named one of 12 Greatest Female Electric Guitarists by Elle magazine. She also won the award as “Breakthrough Guitarist of the Year” 2010 by Guitar International magazine.

On being handpicked by Jackson as lead guitarist for This Is It, Orianthi told The Boston Herlad:
“ I don’t know exactly why he picked me, but he watched my YouTube videos and loved them. He had his choice of guitar players, but I came in and played the ‘Beat It’ solo for him. Afterward he was so happy he got up and grabbed my arm and started walking up and down the stage area with me. He said, ‘Can you play once for me?’ and hired me that night. I wish he was still around. He made me believe in myself more, and I learned so much.”

Orianthi is now working on her next album which she says will be a bit harder rock than her last one. She was spotted playing a concert at The Grove LA July 6, 2011 to kick off The Grove’s Summer Concert Series (With opener John West), with special guest Dave Stewart (Eurythmics, Super Heavy) and here are some photos from the event, including a meet and greet with fans. I also spotted at least two people giving Orianthi their own music CDs – I am sure she gets a lot of demos from fans hoping to catch her attention.

La Toya Jackson’s New Memoir Details Conspiracy To Murder Michael Jackson (Photos)

Tuesday (June 28, 2011) night, I had the utter pleasure of meeting the sweet, soft spoken La Toya Jackson at her book signing for Starting Over, at the Barnes & Noble at The Grove LA.  Over a thousand excited fans showed up for the rare opportunity to meet their idol, and many were seen leaving the scene in tears of joy after they had accomplished what they stood waiting in line for hours to do.

I went to the event as both press and a true fan and happy that I was able to express to La Toya my heartfelt appreciation for the wisdom, kindness and lightheartedness she displayed on the latest season of Celebrity Apprentice. If you watched her on that show, you know what I mean. If you didn’t, the gist of it is that La Toya always remained her humble self despite the fact that all of the women on the show ganged up on her, some in the most vile and disrespectful ways. La Toya never threw mud back and only expressed forgiveness when given a chance to speak. It was refreshing to see a woman being a lady on reality TV these days.

In her new tell-all memoir, La Toya pays tribute to her late brother, Michael Jackson, revealing intimate moments she shared with the deeply troubled pop legend.

La Toya was the first of MJ’s sibling to arrive at the hospital after Michael was rushed there two years ago, and as the informant on his death certificate, she noticed suspicious details and demanded a second autopsy. For the first time, she unveils shocking behind-the-scenes dealings that she believes led to her brother’s demise and she provides unprecedented insight into the destruction of one of the most dynamic artists in history.

La Toya claims there was a conspiracy to murder Michael. “People come into your life, wiggle their way in, control you, manipulate, control your funds, your finances, everything that you have,” she told Piers Morgan on CNN last week. She said her brother told her right before his death: “La Toya, I’m going to be murdered for my music publishing catalogue and my estate.”

La Toya has been consistent in her allegations since Michael’s passing. In her memoir, La Toya offers more detail on who wanted Michael dead in her opinion and reveals how much MJ himself knew about the plot. She told Morgan: “Michael told me that they were going to murder him. He was afraid for his life. I believe that when Michael walked in that house that night, whatever it was that greeted him, he knew that his end was upon him. And as soon as he had passed, some of the very people he had expressed suspicions about now controlled his estate.”

Although Dr. Conrad Murray, Michael’s private physician, will solely stand trial for MJ’s death, La Toya suggests he is not even at the center of the conspiracy to kill MJ. “I truly feel Dr Murray was simply the fall guy,” she told Extra. “I think it’s too easy to blame him. I think the investigation needs to go … further.”

Celebs who came out to support La Toya’s book signing:
Lisa Vanderpump and Ken Todd (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills)
Corbin Bleu (High School Musical)

Actor Flex Alexander, wife recording artist Shanice and their children Elijah Alexander and Imani Alexander

Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” Jacket Auctions For A Fortune

Michael Jackson‘s red jacket from his Thriller video, one of the most iconic pieces of music memorabilia, was sold for $1.8 million at an auction this weekend.

Jackson had signed the jacket on its left arm as a gift to his longtime costume designers, Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush before his death in 2009.

Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills drew bidders from all over the world for the sale but the lucky winner was Milton Verret of Austin, Texas. Verret  will display the jacket at his city’s Dell Children’s Hospital to raise money for children’s charities and hospitals around the world in the spirit of MJ.
The auction also included memorabilia from Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Frank Sinatra, but MJ’s jacket made the most money, by far. In comparison, Sinatra’s 1986 Jaguar was sold for $19,000. Paul McCartney’s bass guitar went for $14,080. The cape Ringo Starr wore in the movie Help! raised $37,500.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of MJ’s jacket will benefit The Shambala Preserve, home to Jackson’s two Bengal tigers, Thriller and Sabu.

Justin Bieber Beats Michael Jackson As New Box Office King

Justin Bieber is a happy teen tonight. His Justin Bieber: Never Say Never film has now become the most successful concert-themed movie, surpassing Michael Jackson’s This Is It.

Never Say Never has earned $72.2 million at the domestic box ticket sales office through Sunday March 20. This Is It grossed $72.1 million domestically.

This Is It did much better worldwide, grossing $189.1 million overseas, totaling $261.2 million when added to US sales.

Never Say Never has only grossed $10.8 million at the international box office in comparison, but Paramount believes the movie could eventually earn $20 million internationally. Where has the movie done best overseas? Latin America, where Bieber has the strongest fan base.

How does Bieber feel about beating the great MJ in US sales? He Tweeted today:

“INSANE!! MJ is still the greatest and my hero but We are so proud of this and so grateful to the fans for making NEVER SAY NEVER 3D the highest grossing concert doc of ALL TIME!! THANK YOU!!! NEVER SAY NEVER!”
