“American Idol’s” David Archuleta Dropped By Record Label

Poor Archie! The 20-year-old David Archuleta, the cutie-pie runner-up from season 7 of American Idol, has been dropped by his record label after just two studio album releases.

“David was released from our roster,” a spokesperson from Jive Records told Los Angeles Times. Pretty terse harsh words about a singer they have had on their label for three years. Then again, this is a tough ass business and it’s all about the bottom line which Archuleta seems to have failed to meet.
Archuleta was just 16 when he lost Idol to David Cook. His 2008 self-titled debut was certified platinum and sold almost a million copies worldwide. But his second studio album (The Other Side of Down) has managed a meager 60,000 units in sales since its release October 5 of last year which explains the drop from the label.
Good luck Archie! You deserve better than this!

Reese Witherspoon Gushes Over “Hot Soup” Robert Pattinson

Oscar-winning Reese Witherspoon may be engaged to Jim Toth, but she still fell under the ever-oh-so-charming spell of her upcoming Water for Elephants‘ co-star, Robert Pattinson. I’d say, Reese, woah, control yourself. But then, seriously, who can blame her?

Entertainment Tonight
reports that while shooting the film last summer, Witherspoon considered herself “so lucky” to be able to shoot love scenes with Pattinson.

“He’s so amazing and wonderful and sweet,” Witherspoon told ET. “And just the nicest guy too, so you can just add that to the soup. I mean, he’s just so good looking, and he’s a really nice person.”

Reese, seriously, tell us how you really feel? S-T-O-P holding back.
OK, so, she did’t hold really back. In her interview with ET, Witherspoon looked back to the first time she worked with Pattinson, on a small part he had in the 2004 Vanity Fair. Strangely enough, he was cast as her son! His scenes ended up on the cutting room floor, but Witherspoon still remembers him fondly: “He was walking down this corridor, and I turned to the director, and I said, ‘That’s my son? He’s so good looking!’ I was like, ‘He’s so hot!'”

And Pattinson tells ET: “Even then, I realized on the set….I look too old to be playing her son. I mean, that’s probably why I was cut.”

Here is the trailer for Water for Elephants:

Justin Bieber Wins MVP Title At NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. Shocker.

I am seriously starting to think Justin Bieber is a twin. Or a triplet. Because the kid is everywhere at the same time and doing a little bit of everything.

This week alone, he’s been spotted at the Grammies in Los Angeles, surprised fans at multiple movie locations showing his Never Say Never, done several talk shows, attended the premiere of his movie in Paris, and now, he was found playing basketball at NBA’s sold-out All-Star Celebrity Game back in Los Angeles.

Not only is he everywhere, he can do anything. He contributed eight points, two rebounds and four assists to his team and even though his team lost, somehow this kid ended up being named the Most Valuable Player of the game. Come again?

How did he get the title despite his team losing 54-49? Voting by his army of 7.4 million Twitter followers, that’s how! NBA star Rick Fox nailed it on the head. He said of his teen sensation teammate: “Justin has the softest hair.”

Bieber was on the Western Conference Team with Zach Levi, Trey Songz, Romeo Miller and Lamar Odom’s brother-in-law, Rob Kardashian. They were coached by Magic Johnson, with official assistance from Jimmy Kimmel and Modern Family‘s star Ty Burrell.

Bieber’s team lost to a Scottie Pippen led-team, coached by Hall of Famer Bill Walton with players such as Common, Jason Sudeikis, Nick Cannon and Michael Rapaport.

“Warmer, Brighter” American Idol Advances Record Number Of Hopefuls

The newer, kinder, softer American Idol leaves me weeping every night I watch the revamped show. And in case you were wondering, no, you’re not mistaken: Newcomers Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and old dawg Randy Jackson sent a record 300+ Idol hopefuls through to the second round in Hollywood.

That number is so astoundingly large for this stage in the contest that it would leave Simon Cowell rolling over in his grave if he were dead.

Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe admits that due to changed economic and social times since Idol‘s inception 10 years ago, Idol needed to put on a cheerier face this year. He told reporters on a conference call Thursday: “I believe these are times when we need to be warmer, brighter, and we need to think we have a future. If we can translate that into kids coming on this show from flipping burgers one day to ending up as the star of a television series, then we are showing everyone there is a way out of our lives.”

Lythgoe continued: “The judges this year have been particularly finicky and careful about giving people a second opportunity because they know everyone screws up with nerves.”

Some 22.8 million viewers tuned in to Wednesday’s episode, down from 24.1 million a week earlier, but the show is holding onto its status as the most-watched show on U.S. television.

“We have held up brilliantly considering we are in the 10th season and we have lost two stars in Paula [Abdul] and Simon. We are in a very good place,” Lythgoe said.

Serene Branson Diagnosis: She Suffered A “Complex Migraine,” Not A Stroke

We now have a medical explanation as to why Los Angeles CBS reporter Serene Branson garbled her speech on air Sunday night after the Grammys: A “complex migraine,” and not a stroke.

Branson’s doctor, Neil Martin, chief of neurosurgery at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, told Los Angeles Times that a complex migraine can mimic the symptoms of a stroke, including headache, weakness, loss of vision and difficulty speaking.

Martin received permission from Branson to discuss her condition publicly.

One of the causal theories of complex migraines is that blood vessels in the brain suddenly narrow, or spasm, and then dilate again. That re-dilation causes a headache but during the spasm phase, certain parts of the brain receive too little blood, causing the temporary stroke-like symptoms.

Sounds scary, right? At least it wasn’t a stroke, and I’m happy to report that Serene looks like she is doing just fine.

David Letterman: “We Were Duped!”

VIDEO CLIP OF THE DAY.

OH OH! Did David Letterman get duped? It seems that way….

On Tuesday, CBS’s The Late Show with David Letterman announced that Lindsay Lohan would be a guest on the show Thursday to read the “Top Ten List” via satellite. Of course this news spread like wildfire until Lohan herself denied the upcoming appearance via Twitter.

Lohan wrote: “I am NOT going to be doing David Letterman. I’m not sure how this happened, but I am sorry for the confusion….”

On Wednesday night’s Late Show, Letterman gave his side of the story with a big old apology. He said that after he joked about Lindsay stealing a Grammy on one of last week’s shows, in reference to her court case over a stolen necklace, he received a call from a “guy” who told him, “Lindsay thought the joke was hilarious.” And the same mysterious “guy” (who we all have been told is Lindsey’s father, Michael) said to Letterman that Lindsay wanted to be on his show.

And it was based on that telephone exchange that Letterman asked the show’s publicity department to release the news via an official statement, which they did. Letterman adds, “But then Lindsay Lohan says, ‘Oh, I don’t know, none of that is happening, I don’t know what’s going on. It’s not true.'”

“So it turns out we were duped.” letterman admits. “And I have no one to blame but myself, and boy, is my face red!”

He plans to use those skills for charity in a competition on April 30 sponsored by Wells Fargo. “All the proceeds go to help children’s charities.”
