VIDEO: Jacob Lusk Wants Us To Look At The “Man In The Mirror”

We’re down to the final nine on American Idol and every one of our contestants was “in it to win it” Wednesday night –If I may borrow an oft-used Randy Jackson line.

I was on set for this very special Rock & Roll Hall of Fame episode and will write a full review later tonight about the experience watching Idol LIVE, I mean REALLY LIVE, in the quaint 700-person studio. So, check back to read the full story.

But for now, I will share the performance video below by Jacob Lusk who sang Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror, being backed up on vocals by Siedah Garrett, the co-writer of MJ’s iconic song.

Lusk ditched Let’s Get It On at the last minute in favor of Man in the Mirror because he could not identify with the “do the nasty” message of Marvin Gaye’s hit. The decision was a success as Lusk really connected with MJ’s message. Every person in the studio had goosebumps when Lusk finished because we all knew we had all just witnessed something amazing together.

Move Over Simon Cowell, Ryan Seacrest Is The New Top Reality Dog

Ryan Seacrest, the busiest man in showbiz, has now ousted Simon Cowell  from the top spot on The Hollywood Reporter‘s fourth annual Reality Power List.

Cowell was ranked number one the last two years in the running but has now dropped to number 6 among the 50 people considered to be making the greatest impact in the realm of unscripted television.

The rankings were based on: Having a reputation for quality and innovation within the business; the indelible mark one makes on his/her shows as overseeing executive, producer, or talent; one’s overall impact on pop culture, and the “watercooler” factor: One’s ability to create dramatic, comedic and can’t-miss TV moments.

Those requirements pretty much sum up our American Idol host and producer of the Kardashian TV empire.  Seacrest is credited with the resurgence of Idol after the high profile departure of Cowell and he won an Emmy last August for producing Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. Congrats Ryan!

Gwen Stefani: “I Ain’t No Lady Gaga, I Put Pants On!”

Gwen Stefani graces the May cover of Elle Magazine and in the interview inside, she dishes about current female pop stars, songwriting lessons learned from Prince, performing while pregnant and her marriage to Gavin Rossdale.

Here are some excerpts from the interview:

On Her Marriage:
“The first time we ever kissed was right around Valentine’s Day – we were in New Orleans on tour. So, yeah, I always think about that because it’s unbelievable that we’ve been able to stay together. I feel so proud of us–it’s one of my biggest achievements.” 
On Lesson Learned from Prince:
“Prince, who is one of my idols, gave me some advice when I worked with him: ‘Have you ever just tried writing a hit? Like, don’t just try writing a song, try and write a hit song.’ I remember him saying that and me thinking, Yeah, you’re right. Why would you write anything else?”

On performing while pregnant:
“It was horrible. Certain songs would make me want to puke. You feel pretty gross when you are first pregnant. You don’t feel cute, you feel disgusting. You’re getting fat. It was hard. I mean, I’m very vain. That would be my middle name. Of course I am, you know what I mean? I love the visual.”

On Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Katy Perry: 
“I don’t see myself in those girls. I usually put pants on. I see these girls as more going for the sex-symbol thing. I was more, in the band, like a tomboy. Of course, I think every girl is sexy, so there’s going to be a little of that. But I see a lot of younger artists going more toward the sexy thing.”

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Eliminates A Second Couple…

SPOILER ALERT: After three weeks of performances on Dancing with the Stars, a second couple was voted off April 5 on Tuesday night’s week 2 results show.

The couple who received the lowest combined votes and who were eliminated are Wendy Williams and Tony Dovolani.

Wendy and Tony danced the Foxtrot to Last Night A DJ Saved My Life Monday night. Wendy’s story involved her debut in media via the radio. She spoke of sleeping at rest stops and taking bird baths in between jobs when she first started. But all that struggle helped her learn who she is. Unfortunately, it didn’t help her on the dance floor. Here is what the judges had said about her performance”

Carrie Ann Inaba (5): “I respect a women who follows her dreams…But this week we took a step back and I am not sure why.”
Len Goodman (5): “Your story was about hard work and struggling to achieve your goals…And I know you must have worked extremely hard. But, we need to be honest. It was a struggle. It lacked fluidity. There was no movement…and I apologize!”
Bruno Tonioli (5): “The Foxtrot has to be long, smooth, fluid. It has to glide and at times it looked like you put down roots.”
Total Score: 15

Miley Cyrus Sex Doll Sells Out

BIZARRE BUT TRUE.

Miley Cyrus is supposedly hella upset that an inflatable sex doll has been made in her image and likeness with the name, “Finally Miley.” The doll is made by Pipedream Products and is apparently a super hot moving item.

The Sun reports that Kevin Johnson of Pipedream Products says: “We are completely sold out [of the doll] already — it’s been on the market for less than 48 hours.”
The doll comes with “3 achey love holes,” and Johnson is waiting for the inevitable lawsuit.

Video: Maksim Falls During Kirstie Alley’s Moving Tribute To Her Parents

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovski danced the Rumba on Monday’s Dancing with the Stars. Over the Rainbow was Kirstie’s chosen tune because it depicts the most significant turning point in her life. 
In 1980, she had moved to LA and had given herself one year to make it in Hollywood. She was up for a role on Star Trek II but got a call from her sister that her parents were hit by a drunk driver. She had lost her mother in the tragedy. But 72 hours later, she landed the role on Star Trek which was her big career break. So, the song for Kirstie depicts hopefulness after the despair.
During what would have been an emotionally supercharged piece, Maks’ “thigh gave out” and he fell to his knee, grimacing in pain for a few seconds. He did stand up and the duo were able to pick up the dance as the consummate professionals that each is. When the dance finished, Kirstie and Maks hugged for along time.
The judges were kind:
Carrie Ann (7): “Sometimes tragedy leads to amazingly beautiful moments. And I think despite the fact that you had a little of a mess up in the beginning, something magical happened after that and you were just so connected to the music…to see you connected to your vulnerability like that and determined to make it through. You did a wonderful job.”
Len (7): “Dancing is a bit like life. It’s about overcoming adversities and you overcame it. You got up, dusted yourself off and you bounced back stronger. Well done.”
Bruno (7): “Kirstie, you can’t keep good talent down. Once you got up it was better than ever!”
Total score: 21
