Leonardo DiCaprio Never Cared About Box Office Success

In the October 2011 issue of GQ magazineLeonardo DiCaprio opens up about his role in Clint Eastwood’s movie playing FBI legend, J. Edgar Hoover. Leo also dishes on his long-lasting career, his father and why he’s a huge box office success.

Here are some highlights from the interview which hits newsstands September 20, 2011.

On his impressive box office success:
“Throughout my career, I never knew which movies of mine made money and which didn’t. When Titanic came out, people would say, ‘Do you realize what a success this is?’ And I’d say, ‘Yeah, yeah, it’s a hit.’ The [money] stuff never mattered to me until I was into my thirties and got interested in producing, and people would show me charts explaining what finances a movie, what you’ll make from foreign, what you’ll make from domestic, what you need to make an R-rated film that’s a comedy versus a drama. But even now I say that unless you want to prove that you can carry a film with your name, continuously trying to achieve box-office success is a dead end.” Continue reading

Leo DiCaprio Tops Forbes’ List Of Highest Paid Actors –Who Else Made The List?

Forbes has named Leonardo DiCaprio the world’s highest paid actor in 2010.

The Inception star crushed the second highest paid on the list, Johnny Depp, by $22 million dollars, earning an estimated $77 million. Not that making $50 million dollars is something to be ashamed of for the runner up star of the Pirates of the Caribbean.

Leonardo’s films Inception and Shutter Island made nearly $1.2 billion worldwide in 2010. Per Forbes, DiCaprio made $15 million upfront for each film and shared the wealth of the profits.

Depp, who topped the list in 2009 by making $75 million then, still came in second in 2010 despite starring in the year’s biggest grossing film, Alice In Wonderland, which made $1.024 billion at the box office, as well as The Tourist, which brought in $278 million worldwide.

Third placed on the Forbes’ list is Adam Sandler at $40 million, followed by Will Smith and Tom Hanks with $36 million and $35 million respectively.

On the female front, Sarah Jessica Parker and Angelina Jolie both made around $30 million each in 2010.

Forbes magazine’s list of highest paid actors for financial year 2010, top five:

1. Leonardo DiCaprio ($77 million)
2. Johnny Depp ($50 million)
3. Adam Sandler ($40 million)

4. Will Smith ($36 million)

Leonardo DiCaprio Named Highest-Grossing 2010 Actor – See Top 10 List Here

Forbes has yet another list, and has named Leonardo DiCaprio the highest-grossing actor of the year.

That’s to be expected for DiCaprio who had two monster movies this year: Shutter Island and Inception. Inception alone made $825 million, quite an impressive feat considering it lacked the benefit of high-priced 3-D tickets inflating the total.

Surprisingly though, newcomer Mia Wasikowska, the breakout star of Alice in Wonderland, came in second! Crazy.

Here’s the top ten:

1. Leonardo DiCaprio $1.1 billion
2. Mia Wasikowska $1.03 billion
3. Johnny Depp $1.03 billion
4. Robert Downey Jr. $807 million
5. Daniel Radcliffe $780 million
6. Robert Pattinson $749 million
7. Kristen Stewart $698 million
8. Sam Worthington $494 million
9. Jaden Smith $359 million
10. Jackie Chan $359 million
