SPOTTED: Empire creator Lee Daniels and Empire star Jussie Smollett at the Sheila Kar Health Foundation’s 14th Annual Valentine’s Day Heart Seminar and Gala benefit held at Beverly Wilshire (a Four Seasons Hotel) in Beverly Hills, CA.

The event was appropriately held near Valentine’s Day and featured a free seminar offered by Dr. Sheila Kar on heart and health awareness. The event concluded with a  gala to raise funds for Dr. Kar’s Foundation.

During dinner, guests were treated to an incredible live performance by Jussie Smollett who performed some of his old songs and a new one to be soon released.

Dr. Peter Nalos and Lee Daniels were awarded the high honors of the night. Nalos received his award for overseeing the building of more than three-dozen schools in Ethiopia.

Daniels was honored for his activism for children’s, women’s and LGBT rights. Daniels was presented his award by Larry King who had everyone in stitches with his delightful humor. In his acceptance speech, Daniels turned the tables from himself to honor Dr. Kar for saving his life.

“I was dizzy, I wasn’t feeling well. I was overweight, I was overworked and I had a heart attack. [Sheila] literally saved my life,” Daniels told India-West in more detail. “When I found out she was involved with [the health foundation], it didn’t surprise me. She’s the most giving person. I’m here to support whatever it is she is about, because she’s angel.”
