SPOTTED: Mel Gibson, Cate Blanchett, Sharon Osbourne, Pauley Perrette, Naomi Watts, John Travolta, Paul Hogan, Simon Baker, Lindsay Price, Grant Bowler, Ryan Kwanten, Anthony LaPaglia, Claire Bowen, Jessica Gomes, Radha Mitchell, Yvonne Strahovski, Air Supply at the 2014 G’Day USA Los Angeles Black Tie Gala. Also on hand were Geoffrey Rush, Jacki Weaver, and Curtis Stone who were each presented with an award at the 11th annual event which was held at the JW Marriot at LA Live Saturday night.

Here are some fun tidbits from the star-studded event:

– On the red carpet, Jacki Weaver had to remind Mel Gibson about a screen test they did together many years ago when he was fresh out of acting school… perhaps he didn’t recall, because it was a role he did not get. Woops!

– Paul Hogan photo-bombing Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush on the red carpet!
– Speaking of bombs… when asked to describe Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush said simply, “She’s the bomb!”

– In his acceptance speech, Geoffrey Rush taught the audience the nuances of an Australian accent, which he credited to his role as a speech therapist in The King’s Speech.

– While Sharon Osbourne was fashionably late to the red carpet, Curtis Stone rushed out from the kitchen (where he and his team were making ravioli to order – for 1100 people!) for a photo opp. We were hoping she’d bring Ozzy out to hang with the Aussies…!

Australia Week’s signature event, the G’Day USA Los Angeles Black Tie Gala is now in it’s 11th year and is one of the most anticipated annual Australian events in the United States. It honors prominent Australians from film, sports, music and culture for their individual contributions as ambassadors enhancing the relationship between Australia and the US.
