You may now call Snoop Dogg as the artist rapper reggae musician formerly known as Snoop Dogg.

The rapper announced last night that he will no longer answer to Snoop Dogg. Nor will he ever make rap music again. From this moment forward, he will be known as Snoop Lion and will make reggae music.

The former “D-O-double G” visited Jamaica in January and discovered his true inner Rastafarian self. And only as Snoop Lion can explain, he says:

“I want to bury Snoop Dogg, and become Snoop Lion. I didn’t know that until I went to the temple, where the High Priest asked me what my name was, and I said, ‘Snoop Dogg.’ And he looked me in my eyes and said, ‘No more. You are the light; you are the lion.’ From that moment on, it’s like I had started to understand why I was there.”

If that isn’t enough to blow your mind, get this. Snoop Dogg Lion now says he wants to make music which ”kids and grandparents can listen to.” His next venture will be a reggae album called ‘Reincarnated’ which will be out this fall.

“Rap is not a challenge to me. I’ve won every accolade you can get in rap, they call me ‘Uncle Snoop’ in rap. When you’re an uncle, it’s time to find something new … I want to feel like a kid again.”
