The Celebrity Apprentice aired a new episode tonight April 22, 2012 entitled, “Winning by a Nose”. This week’s task will be to create an in-store display for Mr. Trump’s new fragrance, “Success,” and it will be a rematch between two sparring project managers. The winning PM gets $100,000 for his or her charity.
Tonight’s episode starts in the suite with Forte trying to figure out who from Unanimous got fired. Lisa whose team won last week is planning on being nicer to Dayana and try to avoid making her cry. Everyone is the suite is surprised that both Aubrey and Teresa return and not Paul. They are all going to miss Paul Sr. Arsenio is worried about having these two as the last members of his team. He calls one (Aubrey) a “damn near genius” and the other (Teresa) “A damn near not.” Aubrey tells the camera that she’s here for her charity and doesn’t have anyone’s back.
Lisa gives her charity, it’s the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, a check for $20,000 as last week’s winning project manager.
Macy’s executives and the Trump organization meets with the teams. Marketing is the key here: They say women make up the majority of fragrance buyers yet at Macy’s, the men are comfortable buying their own products.
For Forte, Penn comes up with an idea right away and Clay is wondering why Penn didn’t choose to be PM. Their slogan is “You’ve Earned It.” Dayana’s ideas were a little more sexual, as she wanted to have “everyone naked” but Clay doesn’t think it is right for this task. Clay notices that Penn likes to hammer in his concepts even if no one wants to listen, rendering brainstorming sessions difficult. So, Clay asks, is it worth fighting Penn or just sticking with his ideas. They decide to go with Penn’s idea of a skyline of NY City combined with Dayana’s face.
Clay is the one creating the design for the display, but he is having a hard time. He says he can do anything musically but is taking too much time trying to make up his mind on this task rather than get the task started and completed.
Lisa is being nice to Dayana as she poses with a male model. Clay says that the team’s fate is in her hands: If they win, she should get a lot of credit and if they lose, a lot of blame should be placed on her since she is the face of the display. Clay also crushes on the model and has a Freudian slip saying he wants to do him. Clay is hilarious. Dayana wants to print a flyer and hand out samples because she feels it is important for people to take something home with them but Clay shoots down the idea. Lisa takes a break from painting to go spy on the other team only to find out that they have identical ideas for this task. She tells her team and Clay worries that by having the same concept, his team won’t have a leg up in the creativity department.
For Unanimous, Aubrey is on full delegation mode. Arsenio comes up with a slogan, “The definition of success is liquid money”. Aubrey does not like it. Arsenio sees it as money, sex and power equaling success but Aubrey thinks that this is too simple and Trump is anything but simple. She wants to do something fresh and not bling bling.
Arsenio finds something online where Trump said “Trust Your Instincts.” Aubrey loves that and and takes the credit for the slogan. Aubrey has the idea to have Eric Trump be the model as if he is a young Donald. They also want to incorporate the idea of the NY City skyline in their display.
Aubrey takes her team to the studio to begin production. She wants to get a picture of Eric in front of the NY skyline. Aubrey stops the van and in Arsenio’s words Aubrey said, “let me put my Vagina on the back of your neck” before climbing up on top of Arsenio and taking a photo of the skyline.
After getting approval from Eric to use his image as a young Donald, Aubrey gives the direction for the display. She asks Teresa and Arsenio to leave and get materials, which Arsenio finds ridiculous and waste of manpower. Aubrey said she sent them both because with two of them on a task, there will be less chance for a mistake –and the two wouldn’t be much help to her in the studio anyway. “I wanna get them out of here,” she says.
Eric comes to Unanimous to pose as a model as Aubrey requested. He seems pretty flattered since this is his first modeling gig. She also complains to Eric that Arsenio and Teresa were not creative at all. He says, it’s all about Aubrey in her mind. When asked, she actually said Teresa is better than Arsenio. “I’m a one man team, yes I said it,” she brags to Eric.
DAY OF TASK
Both teams arrive at Macy’s to put up their displays. Aubrey loves her concept and calls herself a “mini Trump” because she says she came up with the whole idea. Arsenio says the Latin translation for Aubrey is “bossy.” Arsenio did say though that he’d let Aubrey have this so his team gets win rather than let his ego get in the way. George comes and finds the silhouette of Eric is wrong as it looks nothing like Trump. He also says the skyline looks like a Rolls Royce grill. Arsenio thinks George is the grim reaper.
Clay and his team love their display and Clay thinks they will win. Dayana notices holes in their design/display and missing paint on a side and freaks out.
Unanimous have scent sticks and pamphlets as part of their display and the team does a good job on the presentation. During Forte’s presentation, Clay who did not know he had to speak long, ends up ad libbing when the execs tell him to keep talking. He keeps repeating himself. The presentation was terrible, but their display was probably better than Unanimous – except that they should have had scent sticks.
The execs thought Aubrey did an excellent job and loved her team’s slogan, they liked her scent sticks but thought the display lacked creativity. They also did not understand the concept of Eric’s silhouette or how it was connected to the skyline. For Forte, the execs loved the beautiful picture of Dayana in the ad but did not like the team’s slogan. They liked elements of both displays and said if they could combine both team’s concepts, they would have one incredible campaign.
Clay says his team worked hard and everyone was incredible. Lisa says Clay was one of the top two project managers she has ever worked with, the other being Aubrey. “He killed it,” she said. She even said Dayana did well this week.Donald tells the two teams that they both had elements that were phenomenal and wishes it were easier to pick a clear winner.
Aubrey also says her team was incredibly supportive and that they are a family. HUH?! Arsenio applauded Teresa for working hard and running in pumps.
While Arsenio and Aubrey fight over who came up with the “Trust Your Instintics” slogan, on Forte, Penn stepped up and took credit for that team’s slogan which the execs hated.
Donald reveals that the execs hated Penn’s slogan and found it pompous. Penn says Clay lead by consensus. Donald says the execs loved Dayana’s picture but they did not like how big the picture was. They also said the slogan was too small. Donald asks Clay what he thinks of Aubrey saying it’s boring having Dayana’s photo on their display and Clay disagrees saying he is excited to see the photo even though he is gay and that’s saying a lot.
Trump likes both concepts but “loves” neither so the winner gets $40,000 while everyone else gets $10,000 for each of their charities.
Unanimous and Aubrey WIN!! Instead of being gracious, she says if she had the brains from the other team instead of Arsenio and Teresa, she could have won $100,000.
Donald asks whose idea it was to have Dayana’s picture so big. Everyone agrees it was a concenus and Donald is not happy about it.
Forte agrees that no one person was a weak player on this task. Lisa said Dayana was a “champ.” It comes out that Dayana suggested having scent strips which Unanimous had and execs loved but Clay says he could not understand what she was trying to suggest. Lisa said she understood Dayana but it was late in the day for such a suggestion.
Lisa, who is safe, heads back to the suite and Aubrey asks her why she told Donald that Dayana did a good job. Lisa says it’s because she did. Aubrey says because of Lisa’s endorsement of Dayana, Donald may save Dayana and let Penn go.
As usual, Trump says has no idea why Dayana is in the boardroom. He says it came down to the slogan that the execs hated. Penn came up with it and Clay approved it. Clay thinks that the team would be at a loss without Penn but Dayana may be the weaker player moving forward. Based on this task alone, Clay thinks Penn should be fired. Penn said he may have come up with the slogan but he also came up with ideas that the execs liked. He thinks that Clay should be fired. Clay said it’s surprising that between the two of them, he had the bigger balls to take on the task and volunteer as PM.
Dayana says that she would fire Clay because Penn did contribute more positive than negative to the design. Trump said he’d love to fire Dayana because she has been there the most –a record six times. Dayana explains that when she worked with the women, her ideas were pushed aside and she did not have a chance to work because the women just wanted her to go shopping.
