Jack Black Autism is Awesome

Jack Black and Stephen Stills headlined the “Autism is Awesome” The Fly benefit concert, Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at The Grove in Los Angeles in support of The Miracle Project—an arts program dedicated to empowering those living with autism.

The cast of HBO’s Emmy-winning documentary AUTISM: The Musical were in attendance, including Wyatt Isaacs, as well as, Ashley Rickards of Fly Away and Awkward and Survivor Africa’s Ethan Zohn and Jenna MorsacaMax Burkholder who plays an autistic child on Parenthood and is the voice of Calvin on Family Guy was one of the emcees along with Wyatt Isaacs. Ashley Rickards, Ed Asner and Jon Voight were some of the other celebrities in attendance. NFL quarterback Rodney Peete accepted an award on behalf of his wife Holly Robinson Peete for her dedication to the autism community.

The concert was recorded for Everyday Health, a new series from the producers of The Biggest Loser. The show, which will air on ABC this fall, profiles teens and young adults with health challenges who are making a real difference in their communities.  The concert aimed to change the way the world sees autism. “The message is bigger than autism…it’s about world peace,” says Wyatt Isaacs, the 16-year old star of AUTISM: The Musical.

ABOUT THE MIRACLE PROJECT: Founded in 2004, the Miracle Project is a multi-platform socialization program that enables children and teens with autism and other special needs to express themselves through music, dance, acting, story, and writing. ALL children of ALL abilities grow in skill and in spirit while creating and performing in original musicals.
